-drilled holes in the firewall and mounted a modified land cruiser gas pedal assembly.
-mounted the brake pedal into the pedal bucket and realized the brake pedal hits the gas pedal bracket :bang: after doing that, I had to walk away for a few days
-built a brake booster adapter. made it a little shorter than the typical one. will be modifying the support rib on the firewall.
-contemplated mounting the brake pedal in the clutch pedal position (i won't need a clutch) so it would not hit the gas pedal bracket. seemed like a good idea until I realized there are more interference issues with the firewall support rib vs. putting it in the brake position.
-ordered and received a number of (aftermarket) dash switches and knobs. Since I filled most of the holes in the dash I need to decide where I will drill holes for the new stuff.
-applied some seam sealer to the firewall - seems to be cracking for some reason. will have to take the time to remove it and try again. I seem to be having the best luck using 3m Fast-n-Firm followed by a paint brush with a light amount of solvent brushed on it. The stuff that cracked was EverCoat.

overall, getting close to the point where I can paint the cab and the frame.

Forgot to say I sure like the color 6H9 on Mantis new rebuilt 45 as I remember you had something close to that as one of your choices.

I like the 6h9 color too and sprayed some of that out ahwile back to get a better look, but it doesn't look very good with the color on the seats I bought. the seat do not seem to go well with any type or green. wife agrees that the seats do not look good with the green so no matter how much I like the green, it just isn't working. looked into having the seats redone in a diff color but that is just too much money. i suppose i could buy new seats and sell these or put them into the 40...

sort of leaning towards white. but again the toyota 031, 033, t12, t1453 have some yellowish tint and that looks terrible with the seat color too. found a white that is greyish and it looks real good with the seat color, so just thinking i'll probably go with that. its also a newer car color so there are more options on what paint I can get mixed in that color. the older colors from the 60s and 70s seem to be more and more limited in what types of paint they can mix. many of the older paints are being taken off the market and the paint companies do not seem to be going back and recreating the forulas in the newer urethane paints.

if I use the white i'm considering, I think it will be somewhat unique since I doubt anyone else will paint their 45 this color.

FYI, if you like the 6h9 but still want to do something a bit different, I found a good candidate in a toyota color, its t16 - deep ivory or deep indian ivory. seen it listed both ways. I sprayed it out and I really like the color. not quite as green as 6h9 but again unfortunately still too much green/yellow for the seats i have.

- Modified the firewall support rib to allow the brake booster to fit.
- Built an extension piece on the booster pushrod so it now reaches and connects to the pedal.
- Pickup up a complete wiring harness. Didn't come with a mount, found out it is not included and can find no one who offers it so I made one. Now need to decide where to mount it and make another bracket since I don't think I want to mount it directly to the firewall...still trying to decide.

- Next items are to remake the gas pedal and perhaps modify the firewall in that area for the pedal mount.
- Still need to take the plunge and drill holes in the dash for all switches, etc. for some reason, its a hard thing to do....

Found my camera yesterday. Here are a few shots of the booster adapter, booster, and modified firewall rib.

I'm slowly putting stuff back in the dash to make sure I have all holes I need drilled and any not needed, welded up.

I noticed these holes on the bottom lip of the drivers side dash and have no recollection of what went there. Anyone know?

The two smaller holes are threaded for a 6mm bolt. The center hole is about 1" in diameter.

Also, can anyone tell me if this is the right location for the heater switch and vent cable panel?

I'm using one of the threaded holes I showed earlier. I'm thinking I probably welded up the correct holes by mistake.

That bracket/ hole you are pondering i think was for the 4low lever on a later model. I was toying with using it for a pto lever with a bellcrank. I think i can find a pic in 2fpower's thread in our club section.

Well, I found the "before dissambly" pictures of mine I was looking for and the heater panel mounted on the bottom lip of the dash is in the same location as the dash reference pic thread, so I'm thinking that those two holes are used to mount the panel. The weird thing is the large hole, and why its there. Again, the heater panel covers up most of that hole so it seems like its unnecessary. Maybe it was used for something different on a different model, or if there was no heater installed from the factory. Just guessing...

Maybe too, it has something to do with the left most heater panel hole, the one which is covered by the chrome button...humm...

I realize this doesn't answer your question of what the big hole was for. I had the same question as my little heater switch panel didn't seem to use that hole. It just kind of half way covered it. I put the heater from the 1977 FJ40 I parted out and in the 40, there was a light that shined down on that little thing that says "Vent, Heat, Def" and was mounted right where that hole is. I was going to get around to mounting it there and just never did. This is in a '66 LPB by the way. There was a toggle switch in mine where your chrome button is. I have to say this '77 heater is the chit compared to the old one.

Thanks for the info. I think from the pictures I took beofre disassembly and the pictures I've seen of other rigs, the heater control panel definitely mounts using those 2 holes. I still can't explaing the large hole, but since the panel nearly completly covers it, its really not useful for anything else.

One step closer to locating all the stuff that mounts on the dash and identifying all holes I won't be using. :)

Mike,

I will have to find the photo, but on my 63 FJ40, the Darth Vader light was in the big hole. The light was eliminated from that spot and moved to the right of the glove box on the passenger side of the dash, the little control panel covers the hole and utilizes the threaded holes for mounting.

This from Specter's site, they show the light but do not list a part number as they do not have them in stock. The light and switch are hard parts to come by.
