I am pretty darn sure body color
I agree. Around 65 the tanks went to a silver grey color until the 68 model when they switched to black from then on.
Hi, I have been off the forum for ages, moved across the country, blah, blah.
Should your cruiser be a FST please be aware that you have an FJ25 type tank with a FJ40 filler neck and there are no aftermarket tanks. My tank is black, was black before I had it coated and it had no evidence of it ever being a different color. My 1963 FST FJ40 was originally white, now it is tan.

As far as I know the FJ40 hard top and soft used the same gas tank. The FJ25 had a smaller tank because transmission tunnel cover was larger at the rear than the FJ40. The had to be smaller to fit. While the door opening was different the floor was basically the same. The area by the front doors was just a little wider since the rocker panel was not double walled on the soft top.The depression for the gas tank is the same. Front bench seat was also the same. no reason for a different tank.
