I agree with everyone else, it boils down to SUV vs. Pickup. Only you can do needs analysis for your needs. Personal choice and I switch between the two every decade or so. I'm #2 on the list for the new Land Cruiser at the dealer in town when they come out. But likely not going to go that route now.
Dog gets hit by a skunk when out training or hunting if you throw him in the SUV with you you're going to wish you had a truck bed to put him. In the morning taking the new to me 460 to the dealer to have new tires and rims put on. And will have to go back with the Taco first to throw the takeoffs in, take them home and then go back to get the 460. A trailer is a PITA after awhile, it doesn't solve all carrying issues.
On the other hand a SUV has much better weight disturbition over a truck even with sandbags tied down in the bed and a heavy ARE MX topper on it. Be it snow or off road, especially going through any type of boulder field. Rear end likes to break free on washboards without weight easier too. Sure it can be done, but done easier in a SUV.
I have both a 2013 Taco Baja T|X and a 2019 GX 460 that I just purchased 2 weeks ago. Should be cleaning the Taco up for sale it only has 90K on it and this summer put 5100's and OME leafs in the rear. Costing me ~$70 a month in insurance to sit in the driveway, but there is a voice in my head that keeps whispering why not both?
Definitely liking the suv style better, don’t normally use the back seat for anyone but I think even my larger brother in law would be comfortable in LC versus the rather small back in the taco. Don’t need a truck could always get a trailer for things need to be hauled that way. While I know a 4Runner or 460 would be viable options and reliable they are just a little long in the tooth for that type of money.
I ended up with the GX460 because I went to the dealer to test drive a 22 4Runner. Wasn't impressed and it didn't do much for me at least comparing it to my 13 Taco. Then let the salesman talk me into taking a 19 GX460 Lux with 40K on it for a spin. Fully optioned. I knew I was in trouble before I even got out of the lot for the test drive.
Hadn't bought a used vehicle in more than 40 years, closer to 50 years, until a couple of weeks ago and wasn't looking to. The sticker was still in the glove box $70,049. I paid just over half that for it 4 years later and didn't see anything that is "long in the tooth" about it. If I list my Taco for sale I am going to ask 2/3 of what I paid for it new 10 years ago. Because Tacos incur the "Toyota Tax" and bring a premium used. Lexus apparently not so much, however it is still a Toyota. And then some.
Had heard that before but never really grasped the concept until I was in the actual situation. I vote that you go take a 460 for a drive and see what you think. Then a Taco and a LC when they finally come out.
