I would like to put 7x16" steel wheels on my '78 FJ40 in order to use the common 10 ply rated 235R16 tire used on 1 ton flatbeds and many 3/4 ton trucks as OEM. We have (2) 1 ton flatbeds and a diesel Ford on our farm as well as 2 military surplus flatbed trailers, all of which use this size tire and we seem to have lots of spares. So it makes sense to us to standardize on tires and I am inquiring the list as to if anyone knows of a 7x16" steel wheel that will nicely fit a 40. Mine is lifted about 2", maybe 3" in back. I currently run Michelin 10.5x32 ATXs on 8x15 wheels with no rubbing and my tub has not been cut. A 235R16 appears to be the same height as the 10.5x32 ATXs and a little narrower so I'm confident of the fit. If anyone knows of an acceptable wheel for this application please let me know. Don't need anything fancy, just a simple sturdy steel wheel.

Thanks, Lancimus

I put the 16x8 black steel wheel from 4 wheel parts on my 40 (no fake beadlocks allowed) because my gm 4 wheel disc brake conversion wouldn't clear the stock wheels. It's nice to swap 265-75-16 tires from my work trucks onto the cruiser I think I paid $90 per wheel..

Howdy! Should work fine, no clearance problems. Just watch out on the offset. Common 4" offset will not clear your front disc brake calipers. 3.5 or less will work fine. I am running 3.0. John

I was thinking of running 16x8's on mine,,those 33x12.5 swamper boggers would look nice an give a little extra help n the mud. I havent tried, but i would like to buy a set an see if the boggers clear with a 2" lift,,an a 3.0 offset rim
