Hello all and Happy Holidays,

I have a 79 FJ43 with the original 16' split wheels and need some nice looking tires and sizes recommendations.

I have seen that a few people are saying 235/80/16 is the perfect size and a few are additionally that BFG All Terrain tires look the best. Currently the FJ has 235/60/16 tires and they seem small and crappy.

Also, did the 1979 FJ43 not come with Center Caps? I see pictures with them... My wheels dont have the holes to rivet the cap clips. So, no?

Thank all!!

Take a look at the Traxion 7.50-16. I think they're bias , but if you're looking for old school look they're nice.

Dont forget you can now get a quality modern radial in the old 7.50r16 size meant for those narrow rims with the BFG KM3.

What about the BFG Rugged Terrian 235/70/16? Are those good?

Should I get 7.50/16???

Thanks
That's entirely up to you - the 235/70R16 size is going to be smaller, and is a P rated tire, for "passenger" vehicles. Thats totally fine for road driving or gravel and dirt roads. They will be lighter weight, quieter, and should ride smoother. The 7.50R16 BFG's I chose are an LT "light truck" tire, and in load range E which is what is typically found on a 1-ton pickup. Overkill for road driving, but will be a tougher tire off road.

Are the Dunlop Qualilfier or Road Gripper even available in the US?

I would love a set of three for my M416 trailer.

Those look good, but I don’t want the width of a 235-85-16. I prefer a 7.5 R16 or even better a 225 95 R16. I have not been able to find any 225 95 R16 in the US.

33”x10x16 approx depending on the maker

SO, 7.50/16 converts to 235/85/16 which converts to 33x10x16?

Haha sorry

But, 245/75/16 will work and look correct on my 78' FJ43? I'm asking cause someone is selling new BGF Ko2 dirt cheap.

Thanks,

It is for most situations

235/85/16 was suppose to be the conversion of the 7.50/16

The 235/80/16 are being fitted to new 7* series. Ive had both sizes on my 75 series and the 235s make the speedo accurate to 1%.
