You can always give a call to the PO;) I would rarely see the pre heat light - on the dash right hand side by the filter light. When I did see it, it would glow for a short time after a very cold night. If it was moderately cold I would give it some foot throttle and crank it... Start right up and then adjust with the hand throttle to a suitable RPM

Well you have been a bit busy of late and I did not want to bother you while you are getting used to your new arrival. The last thing you need is me calling you twice a day "Hey whut's this do? How do I know if that is right? How did you manage without a place for your coffee cup?" and so-on.......:hillbilly:

You are bound to get plenty of that later. :)

Your plate is at my desk by the way.

Dan,
Try 80 hubs they offer a wider stance, without spacers!

What about on the back?

I can alway answer question! Shoot me a text. Im having a problem getting out of the house:). I'm trying to get there soon with some more goodies probably be next week

One thing at a time!

Hell grab an HDJ80/81
Transplant Turbo'd engine and axles for a wide smooth ride.

There's already 3 80s in my yard. My wife may not be too keen on that even though one of them is hers...

Nope. I haven't had the time. The wheels are at work and I did not get my plate until yesterday afternoon. I did not feel like driving it in bumper-to-bumper Alameda traffic this morning....I'm a wee bit shy still around lots of other cars....... and no place to put my coffee cup :hillbilly:. The 80 wheels have a well worn set of 305/70/16 Dunlop mud rovers on them so that will give me what I need dimensionally to check fitment. I have not pulled one of the wheels that are on the 74 to check the actual back-space. The 80 wheels have 4.5 inches of backspace. Do you recall the back-space of the black wheels?

I'm 95% sure that it doesn't have spacers. Axles are stock 70 series axles. I have seen the 80 series steel wheels mounted in many early series Land Cruisers (40, 60, 62, and 70) and if I remember correctly, they will fit without spacers with no major issues but they barely (but almost nothing) touch the dust boot of the tie rod end. A few people run a 1/4" or thinner spacer to move the wheel slightly out and eliminate this problem....but that's what I remember.

My friend Fernando (ferportu) ran them on his SOA FJ40 with no spacers and no issues.

Let us know how it turns out and I hope this helps!

Alberto

Thanks!

Peter's fool proof 13B-T cold weather starting procedure

It was -20C in Calgary on Wednesday, and I can tell you how to start your 13B-T in cold weather after it's been sitting undriven for a few days.

1. Cycle Pre-heater 3 Times.
2. Crank Engine until battery dies.
3. Hook up 24V Battery Booster
4. Walk to other BJ74 in the back yard that also won't start and get can of Ether from glove box.
5. Open air cleaner.
6. Spray ether into intake.
7. DANGER - Don't cycle preheater, but do crank engine. You don't want ether igniting in the intake!
8. After battery runs down again, try to get remaining dregs of ether into the intake.
9. Crank until battery runs down again.
10. Throw out empty can of ether.
11. Go in house and warm up.
12. After 30 minutes, cycle pre-heat 3 times, then crank until engine starts to fire.
13. Keep Cranking.
14. When truck is running, drive to meeting, arrive late. Blame stupid Land Cruiser.
15. After meeting, notice fuel is low. Head towards Gas station.
16. Put on 4 way hazards when truck stalls in middle of busy road, out of fuel.
17. Call wife, and try to explain which jerry can to get off the shelf, and which is the correct fuel nozzle for plastic Scepter vs. steel Nato jerry cans.
18. Hang up in disgust and call AMA.
19. Wait 2 hours in cold for tow truck to arrive.
20. Send tow truck back to gas station for diesel, instead of gas.
21. Bleed fuel system while tow truck driver fills tank.
22. Loose feeling in fingers.
23. Crank engine to bleed fuel and get it started until battery dies.
24. Hook 12V booster cables from tow truck to 24V batteries.
25. Crank over engine slowly until it fires.
26. Drive home.
27. 4 hours later when alarm goes off in morning, ask wife to drive you to work in her Subaru.
28. Spend afternoon looking at Cummins swaps into Land Cruisers.
29. Leave truck parked until weather warms up on the weekend.

Printed and placed in the glove box......:hillbilly:

I'm in the 74 today. Jason just aligned the front end. Man that guy is good. He has never touched one of these before and he had me dialed in in less than 30 minutes.

He wouldn't drive it on and off the rack tho.......

What does Rozzelle think about your ride?

He shook his head and said something along the lines of "it figures"........

Is the 13bt know to be a poor starter in the cold? It was -25 today I think and I haven't had any issues with the 1HD-T. Gelling fuel is the only thing that's ever caused winter issues for me.

When I get home in a couple of weeks, I'll call you before I try to start my truck after 6 weeks of Alberta cold.....:hillbilly:
