Hi all. New to the forum but have been visiting for a while.

While browsing, I haven't seen any pictures of intercooler set ups on 13B-t engines. Whose got them? How well do they work? Show us what you've got!

I have seen some pretty sweet intercooler setup's from forum
members on this site. One that comes to mind is eleblanc's.
He has a sweet water/air intercooler. That is what I will do if I go
liquid/air intercooler. Another performance mod that seems very
interesting is meth injection. Sounds real cool too:)

78 2LTE intercooler

Not a 13b-t but same theory. Home made and works great. Been testing for a few months and have had great results.
From outlet of turbo through cooler to inlet of intake there is a 125- 150 deg f drop in temp after a 20 min up hill climb with the hand held laser temp gauge.
Should have done this as soon as I bought the rig. If your not running high boost there is no point. I run 13- 14 pounds of boost. EGT's down and also engine temps.
People seem to be worried about the EGT probe melting off and destroying the engine. With a cooler it will never reach the engine could only destroy the turbo that probably needs a rebuild to begin with.
Only thing was is that the a/c had to go(that didn't work anyways).

I did a post of my 13B-T intercooler install. Try searching again. I don't have a actual picture of the intercooler mounted in front of the radiator, but I did it similar to Pradocruzers, except my intercooler is bigger, and 2in. thick. If you still want a picture of the intercooler itself installed I will try and get one posted up when I get back home this weekend.
 
78 2LTE intercooler

The cooler I used was a Vibrant 12800. Check them out online.
520 CFM 26 inches long 6.5 wide by 3.25 thick. this is more than enough for my ct20 turbo and i didn't block off the whole rad.
Not to much turbo lag and efficiency is what i was after.
 
I have taken my air/air intercooler out of my HZJ79, I replaced it with a water/air type. The air/air did a great job but I wanted to experiment with the water/air type. The air/air made about a 150 degree difference, by that I mean that instead to the EGT's hitting 1200 at a certain speed they would only hit about 1000-1050 and sustain for a while. It worked very well. You could really notice how well it worked when at highway speeds.

It should just bolt in to your truck as the fronts are the same.

Thanks for the pics and links guys. Do those front mounted air to air coolers fit behind the factory grille? And do you have air conditioning in there too?
 
I have an a/c unit, but I just sold the intercooler. They do fit behind the grille. Bets to measure yours though - to make sure.

How much difference has the A2W cooler made ? Do you advice to rather have a W2A or A2A cooler installed ?

My setup looks almost the same as above, but both my boost pipes run in & out on the batteries side. Don't have pics now.
 
If you are going to use it for Hiway travel then an intercooler would be a good idea if you run 12psi and plus If you are gonna wheel a lot I would gofor something like Ishobie air to water (aftercooling).
 
Here it is as it was when I bought it. Looks a bit different now with smaller wheels and tyres and I've been getting some wrok done on it. Still no intercooler though. Will take and post more pics when its out next

Thats a real clean looking rig.
Has it got coil spring suspension or is it spring over axel?

If it helps a few mate that run turbo d hiluxs and cruisers with not much inter cooler room run coolers out of those big mercedes vans there thin and long/wide cooler good specially for old luxs with not much room up front
