Hey guys,

I am going to buy a 13B engine and I would like to know if this engine in NA form is faster than the 2LTE and also since the displacement is bigger will this engine move easier my LJ71 getting me better mpg??

According to Wikipedia the power output figures are very similar stock. I would think the 13B would have much better low end torque though, as it is not relying on boost to make it's power figures. I'm sure the 13B would win by far in terms of fuel economy and reliability as well. The 13B is a direct injection engine too which is an advantage. Worst case, the 13B could be made into a 13B-T, and then it would really win.

All that said, my 2LTE with many little tweaks and the boost turned up is making some nice power; well over the factory spec.

Wikipedia says:

13B
Same as the 3B but with direct injection. Output for 1985 versions is 100 PS (74 kW) and 24.0 kg·m (235 N·m; 174 lb·ft)

2LTE
97 hp (72 kW) at 3,800 rpm and maximum torque is 24.54 kg·m (241 N·m; 177 lb·ft) at 2,400 rpm

The 13b needs to be turbo for sure, anyone with a LJ has done this project already so I can see some pictures?

Also will the 2LTE stock turbo fit on the 13b and work good??

A member here put a 3B into his LJ. I can't see the 13B or 13B-T install being much different. Just search for the thread and it should come up.

2LTE turbo is too small for a 13B.

I think I have found that thread, thanks for the info.

I wonder what is the model of the stock turbo the 13b comes with? Also what is a good turbo size that I can put on this engine??

one problem though is your diff gears are going to be pretty low for the 3B, unless you're going with very large tires. that'll take down your fuel mileage. i've never got a definitive answer to this question - will standard 8" mini truck diffs fit the LJ or must you use a cruiser 8" like in the front of 1990+ HZJs etc.? maybe either will work, or maybe all 3 are different?

I see, well I am planning on running 285/75/16 tires I don't know if those are large enough lol

CT26 is the turbo you need.

well, we installed a 2LTE turbo on a 3B using a 13BT manifold and adapter.
works very well both off road and on the highway.

the diff gears is what kills the mileage of the 2LTE and will also kill the mileage of the 13B. but you can run a lift and 35s to cure that issue.
you will need a different input shaft for the 13B to work in the LJ.

post up a thread, we all like build threads.

I will start a thread for sure when everything starts.

And that's nice if I can use my current turbo in the 2LTE, that means I don't have to buy another one!!!

with those 4.88 ( good call ) ? ( at least here all came with ) on those axles .. you will " need " at least 35" and up to be happy .. and I mean real 35"

Your 2LTE came with R151 tranny .?

I don't know the real model of the tranny, this truck came straight from Japan and they converted it to LHD as they do with all the cars imported from Japan in my country. You are not allowed to drive RHD :/

How about putting 4.11 on the diff? Looks like I will need big ass tires if I don't change gears lol

Yes do a search mine was converted from 22R to 13B-T and then modified further to beat nancy boyz in their 1KZ powered wagons. hahahaa

2LTE turbo is too small for a 13B.

Need a CT26 from a 13B-T or 14B-T or a SUPRA (7M) as the turbo 2LT turbo is too small unless you are going to do compound turbo.

Alright guys, thanks for your inputs I will keep you all posted on the progress. This will be a future project but it will happen for sure so stay tuned!!!

:hhmm: You have a 1kz powered lc2 yourself;p

What axle ratio is the 13B-T...4.56 or 4.88?

I wondered if you would bite hahaha.

currently have 9/41=4.56. 4.88 I destroyed in about 2010 with the 13B-T. The truck would easily pull the 3.7* diffs if given the chance.
