8" standard rotation from any mini will fit on those Light Duty axles .. are the same 8" 3rds .. that would be a easy swap ..

Why you wish to put in 8" axle to a light duty when they already are 8" axles??

then you could swap from 4.8s to 4.10s without having to setup the gears, just swap the entire diffs. i'm dreaming of a similar swap as n0ferz and my goal would be around 2250rpm @ 110 kmh with a 1PZ instead of 3B. i wouldn't need the high pinion for light trail/DD.

Easier just to change the r&p. Whether or not you have the high pinion is no matter.

I am putting a B engine into a kzj71, if the ratio is a little out then I will just change the r&p only....not the whole axle as it does not make economical sense to me.

well, yah it does make a difference but be sure to post up your gear swap so i can be proven wrong ...

What difference does it make? Always open to learn something new.:D

the cut of the gears ...
i could be mistaken, wouldn't be the first time, but my understanding is that the cut of the gears is different for the raised pinion vrs the regular bottom loader.

first off crushers is correct, high pinion diffs have reverse cut gears. but even if the mini-truck diff was also high pinion you can't just throw in a different ring and pinion and hope for the best. There's a reason drivetrain guys charge alot of money to set these up with hi-tech equipment.

the reason i was skeptical in the first place is because i was told that standard 8" mini truck diffs will not fit in HZJ75 fornt 8" housings. this guy ended up paying $2000 for a new one for the HZJ he is restoring! That made me afraid that maybe the prados were different as well. I'm hoping Tapage is speaking from experience when he says they will fit no prob. ;p

80 sereis front diff bolts in the front of your LJ
not sure about the rear.
i know where there is a minitruck rear diff with e/locker, 4.56 and 20K on it ... it was brand new factory.

I just wanna know why is the gear high pinion?

for clearence ...
remember these are only used (AFAIK) in coil suspension vehicles.

Ok, good and thanks.

So I have a couple more questions guys regarding the swap of the 13B into the LJ78

1. Can I use the stock Auto tranny in my LJ with the 13B?? Can I get away by modifying the stock bellhousing to mate the 13B Engine?

2. I want to keep the stock tach in the dash working with the 13B so from where will I get the tach signal??

3. What do you all think about the CT12B turbo? is this one better than the CT26 in terms of low rpm boost?? I have read a few threads here and some people suggest this ct12b turbo since it is off a 1kzte engine and its displacement is close to the 13b's

1: no
2: no
3: use the turbo from the 2LTE for low end boost applications. works very well.

to expand, you are best to find a 13BT auto tranny and use that, you will have the tach sensor in the bell housing, it will bolt directly up to your 3B. the 343 never came behind a B series engine (that i am aware of) so no bell housing available.

I think I have found that thread, thanks for the info.

I wonder what is the model of the stock turbo the 13b comes with? Also what is a good turbo size that I can put on this engine??

Please do not confuse the 13B and the 13B-T - they are different engines in some respects: the 13B did not come with a turbo from the factory. The 13B-T did come with a turbo.

The old adage: "there is no replacement for displacement comes to mind" if you want to make power and torque, it's better to start with a larger engine if what you really want is power.

The other way of reading this is that the more fuel and air you can feed and engine, the more power it can make....

One important thing to note is that a turbo effectively adds displacement, and therefore more power from a given displacement.

I would be concerned about gearing and RPM issues with the 2LTE diffs, but that can be offset by re-gearing, changing tire sizes, swapping out the transfer gears for ones like the Mark's set that offer an overdrive in the high range drive gears.

LJ78 series rear end is an 8" unit with its own carrier/pinion gear alignment.

The 9.5" gear sets will not fit at all.

A ratio from another Toyota 8" set up would work - you should even be able to go with a high pinion in there but you would be running it in the weaker reverse rotation orientation.

Thanks all for the replies my engine is actually a 13B NA that has been converted to Turbo.

In my country ( Dominican Republic ) people modify bellhousings and can fit any tranny into any engine(this is what I believe I might be wrong) and that's why I am asking if my stock tranny will fit the 13B.

I don't believe that I can find an auto tranny out of a 13B here in my country....some local people are suggesting to swap a 1kzte engine in but I don't like that engine and I don't know why, maybe it is because I have read here that they suffer the same blown head disease that suffer the 2LTE engines.
