This is called avoiding sanding and painting, which is what I should be doing.
It's been plumbing fest around here the last couple weeks. Redid the whole shop, because the leaky hw tank meant splicing to 30 year old poly B and I didn't much feel like that...hence, plumbing fest. 🙄

so I'm just pissing around with something fun for a bit.

Anyways, before... (Like 2 years ago before, forgot to take a pic this morning lol )

And now.

PXL_20230824_201527323.jpg

The 4wd switch was the only one that worked, and the ashtray and that stupid mailslot junk holder were just a waste of space.

I used a piece of what I think is nylon, not sure how well it'll hold that paint over time, but I didn't have any black starboard. Plus this was kindof a test to see how it worked. If it was a total failure I wouldn't be crying over a $50 piece of plastic.

If the paint hangs in there, it might actually be better beige...:hhmm:

Anyways, it's not too bad. Would be cleaner with starboard or even aluminum, but it's better than the busy mess of crap there before.

Lots of room for gauges and actual useful switches if I decide to add them, but that s*** gets too overlandy in a hurry.

Finally got a chance to play with the rotary table.

Only bit of the license plate lights that was salvageable was the lens covers.

I should have countersunk it a bit deeper, I'll try that on the next one.

This is just playing because it's my only day off and I don't really want to get into anything too involved.

Picked up some OT shifts, which seemed like a good idea at the time...:bang:

Some cheap little leds. 12v so I'll have to do a series thing, but maybe I'll have a functioning license plate light for the first time in 9 years on this truck soon

I counter sunk them both as far as I dared, works better for the gasket.

Bright little ****ers...

PXL_20230902_233436100.jpg

I'd forgotten we had houseguests this weekend... So I've been hiding out here puttering with these things instead of going inside to get a headache. 😒

Making these was really just an excuse to figure out how this thing works. Pretty cool. I'll make a bracket for it so it's a little more civilized to mount, but I can see the potential for some fun s*** with this thing...😁

PXL_20230902_234346542.jpg

It's weird having a truck in this side of the shop, but the light is a lot better. I think I'm done with welding, because this side is a definite no spark zone. If it turns out some of the "surface rust" is on both surfaces I'll have to move it back.

Ih8bodywork. I'm pretty sure my liver hates it too because this s*** makes me drink like a damn fish.

I had wanted to do this on my last block of time off, but father in law's wipeout kinda ate up all the time and I couldn't be without semi civilized wheels.

I'll have to rig up the pellet stove to get the chill out now that painting weather is officially here🤣

Anyways. Stripes are now fully gone.

Thank **** the dogleg is still ok on the other side.

Cool to see the 60 getting some love, and that side of the shop being used!
Haha yeah without the boat, there's kindof a lot of room...and the lighting is so much better I really need to do something about the other side.

I'm not sure if I'd call this love though :bang: 😂

I bought a bunch of led lights for the barn last year and got them up, world of difference what good lighting does. Also really nice with the instant on in winter...

Drywalling and painting the ceiling made a huge difference on this side. My fixtures are the type with the slots to let light bounce off the ceiling, so now that there's something there for it to bounce off, it's way better.

I'll have to do the garage side too I guess...but not today

Thats enough of that bull**** for one day.

One bonus of getting wood pellets by the pallet is the 4x4 sheets of heavy brown paper that come with every one.

Did the first leaf blowers and exhaust fans dust blast...there will be more before painting day.🤣

What colour of Tremclad do you plan to paint it? It's $100 a gallon these days... or do you have a few cans stashed for a rainy day.

I've been told by some old guy who used to spray in a dirty shop that its a good idea to wet down the floor and things so the dust doesn't fly around as much while spraying, I've heard it a few times so I guess it's fairly common practice...

Yeah we sprayed a few boat hulls in a big dusty shop. You can never really get it all, but if I was doing this when I wanted to, it would have been sprayed outside anyways. :meh:

That's still a fraction of the cost of automotive paint, plus ease of touchups in future.

I could spend 1k on paint supplies or 100, it'll still need redoing in a couple years. It's just reached that point.

Sooo........ Have you picked a colour?

Going to mask the sunroof now before I forget...just noticed this

PXL_20231201_182403639.jpg

The square of paint where it looks like something was stuck maybe?

All I can think is an emergency light. Seems unlikely this was a taxi, but who knows.

Well a good news bad news day.

The ancient brute of a pellet stove still works, my exhaust fan and spray gun do not.

Meh. I didn't really expect the gun to still work considering it was a princess auto 30 dollar special 15 or 20 years ago and I haven't touched it in ten.😂

I just wanted to do a test spray up on top where nobody will ever see it.

Got a small patch to go but the gun, she is fooked.

Within half an hour the shop is up 5 degrees with this old monster. Even with those gaps behind it.

PXL_20231201_214820302.jpg

I suppose in theory I could use this extra time to do more surface prep....(yeah right  )
