Chicago deep dish with a sausage patty is the only way to go...

From Lou Malnati's no less. Maybe Pequod's. I NEED to get back to Chicago!!!!!!

Some GOOD news for our HIHX prospects! State Parks and Campgrounds in CO to start opening in a phased approach on May 12! Still a ways to go, but finally some positive signs.

For someone who is perpetually late to the party and lack friends - which of these trails in Silverton/Ouray area are doable on a stockish 100 running solo? What is a good town to make your base if you had to stay in a hotel (no camping?)

Silverton is a great basetown (plenty of public camping areas in the area as well such as Molas Lake Campground). A stock 100 can do all of the trails up there (including Black Bear, but wouldn't recommend that one solo) except for Poughkeepsie Gulch. A GREAT solo "loop" in a stock 100 would be to head up CR2 and cross over Engineer Pass, lunch in Lake City and return to Silverton via Cinnamon. That's a super-easy, super-scenic route.

You could easily do all of the Gulches just off CR2 heading to Animas Forks (easy half-day trips): Maggie, Minnie, Eureka are all EXCELLENT options for stock 100s.

PM me if you need maps or instructions. I've gotten to know all the trails up there quite well over the past several years.

Can I PM you just because I miss you?

That's great news, after another rather hectic work (from home) day!

I can now go watch @Ramathorn15 's Youtube video of HIH7 to relax, and count the days again :)

(Originally I wasn't much of a fan of the soundtrack, but it's starting to grow on me .)

This is really good news Gary! I also saw that Rocky Mountain National park has announced reopening on May 27. Things are definitely looking up!

Love me some Portillo's! Was up there this past February and got an Italian Beef, Chicago Dog, fries and a chocolate cake shake. To say I was full would be an understatement

Excuse me, someone brought up pizza, not the midwest's finest cheese casserole. :p
You are 100% correct for a couple of our chains, I’m not a big fan. Lou’s and Pequod’s aren’t like that.

@geanes got Himself the family platter at Portillo’s. I’ve never been brave enough to get the chocolate cake shake. The secret ingredient in the cake is mayonnaise.

The best pizza in the US is Antico’s in Atlanta. That’s what’s upo_O

We tried adding other adventures as options a few years ago. River rafting trip in Durango, Silverton/Durango train rides, mine tours, guided hikes, fly fishing, 14er climbs, and mountain biking trails. They all flopped. Mountain biking Telluride mountain is the only one that had any traction.

Handies is one of the better climbs in the state. The flowers are bananas. Climbing a 14er is a daunting task even for healthy folks, but very very doable. It's important to start early. Leaving camp before 5am would be best. You definitely want to be off the summit before noon. Folks are killed every year from lightning here in Colorado. I can't tell you how many times we've been descending after summiting and a group in jeans and sneakers are just starting their climb with storm clouds building all around. Storms pop up fast almost every day above 13,000 feet.

My girls climbed their first 14er when they were 8. If your kids are up for it, it's a fantastic thing to do as a family. Little legs take twice as many steps as big legs, so plan for at least an extra two+ hours with kids. Stop often and always have sugary snacks and plenty of water available to keep them going.
Our daughter will have just turned 9 when we are there so we are also interested in climbing Handies.
