Hey fellas,

I bought, but have not yet picked up a 91 FJ80 from Gary. My tow rig (Diesel Ram 2500) has been a project for the past year, and looks like this coming weekend I will be able to button it up and put it back on the road. As soon as it's on the road, I need to find a car hauler capable of carrying a 6k cruiser.

Do any of you fellas have a suitable trailer that i may be able to borrow?

Cheers
Morgan

In the event you're unable to borrow a trailer within a distance of your trip that makes sense, I've used a UHAUL trailer three times for my 60. It worked well each time, to include a trip from Memphis when I bought the 60. One thing to consider if you use a UHAUL trailer is the size tires on your 80. My 60 has BF 33"'s on it and the straps on the UHAUL trailer were not long enough. I had to use auto ratchet straps that worked fine. The UHAUL trailer is about $55 per day (as long as you pick up and return to the same location).

I only found mention of the story of the trailer tongue failing. I suppose that could happen with any trailer. Found dozens of posts related to UHAUL trailers working out well...

An 80 is WAY too heavy for a U-haul trailer.

I think the weight limit is 4K

All the rental trailers have a max payload of about 4500 lbs. With a stock 80 weighing in around 6k, there is no way I am going to put an 80 on one. Rumor has it that @Stoshu may have a 10K trailer.

I tried to trailer my 80 from St Louis and not a single rental truck company would rent me a trailer, or a dolly, due to weight restrictions.

mmm....Are we sure that the 80 is 4,595 lbs? From recollection that is about 1000lb shy of the stock weight.

@brosie that 60 is gorgeous!

How far is it going? I have access to a roll back tow truck.

5480, arb, 4x4labs, 295s 1/2 tank gas and me.
This 80 has 35's, but no armor, so may vwry well be under the max payload of a u-haul after all.

I am taking the 80 from Gary's place back to Chester NJ....about 2 hours.

U Haul is funny with their calculations. I've tried a number of times to rent a dolly from them to pull behind a full size Chevy V8 truck and they have turned me down due the type of vehicle (Older SUV), even though it weighs less than some sedans I've seen on U haul dollies. No real rhyme or reason.

I've been impressed with the uhaul trailers, serge brakes, good clean relatively new trailer. I agree though, an 80 is pushing it.
I think the rollback is the way to go.
