So there is a set local. I would love to change to look of my 100 (rim wise). Only problem is they are split rim and 6" wide. I have 305 KM's that I just put on 6 months ago. I can't find any information on split rims on passenger vehicles and if they are legal to run/safe. I think it would look cool, but is it worth the work and time? It's my only option with different wheels in the 16" range other than importing AU rims, that is out of the pocket book for me. I do LOTS of highway, so if it's not a rim that will be safe at high speeds for several hours then tell me. How about airing down?

Thoughts? Pics?

found a picture on a 105:

FWIW the ram that I had for a couple of months(also 305 tires mounted) had a 6" wide wheel! Not sure what a "split" wheel means though so I cant comment on the safety/legality

this rim also comes on the 70 series in middle east , fits perfectly on the 100s.

i can't comment on safety too , but if their is really a safety problem , what about these rims ?

they used to come on standard and gx grade 100s.

this is a pic of them on my hundy.
they are really durable , how ever are heavier than stock rims.
(they are 16 inch , and their are two types , the 105 steelies which are deepers , and the ones in the pics below which are hundy steelies )

here they are on my previous hundy

with hub caps and wihout

The main advantage of the split rim is to be able to remove and replace a tubed tire off the rim on the trail. You will probably have a hard time finding someplace that will be able to mount tires on them as they are just not common in the US. I would imagine most tire shops wouldn't touch them. Profitt's had several sets for sale too. And, AFAIK they can't be aired down. The pressure is what holds the lock ring on.

If you want that look, go with the 18" Tundra steelies next time you need new tires.

I have a split rim & tire for a spare, even at 6" wide and a 7" tire the thing is pushing 100lbs. Put a set of the splits on your 100 with big tires and you will end up with power of an 80.

For strength, weight, balance, and quality you cant beat the stock set up.

that kills it for me... I would rather stay with 16's so I guess the factory rims will do for now. I cruise a little faster on the highway than most (80-90mph when safe, only 10 over here)

As for highway use, what is your opinion. No go?

Why do you want to make a luxury vehicle look cheaper and perform poorer with split steel wheels?

Have you seen how he treats/uses his 100?

occasional fireroad trail riding is great, but I worry more about what happens when I'm going 80 mph on the interstate. I've spent the last 10 years crawling all of the South trails including Grey Rock, Morris Mountain and Tellico so I understand the purpose of steel wheels. I guess I'm stating that modifications to a daily driver has take in more considerations.

that is my main concern. I don't think they would be a problem with proper maintenance and the right tires. you cannot air down, and most shops (that I called) won't touch them.

The biggest tire you can mount on the split style are 255/85. Which kills it for me since skinny tires on 100's look really silly to me.

have you ruled out two sets of tires and wheels? a floor jack and electric gun make quick work of a change. On my last one ton YJ crawler I had, I had a set of 38" swampers on steel beadlocks for the trail and a set of stock H2 aluminum wheels/35" BFGs for crusing around. Took about 5 minutes to swap them out.

I don't want to run a separate set. I don't have the space nor money. College budgets really cut down on what you can do. I have made my pennies go this far. I can find somewhere else to pour money into. I just wish we had a steel 16" rim in the US.
