Yup. I know you deal the REAL good stuff and can appreciate this: My friends thought I was crazy when I started hanging up my little B&W speakers instead of the Bose Accustimass stuff they all love.

Bose = consumer grade puke (no, I'm no opinionated)

Back on topic, I had a neighbor who owned a pre-BMW 4.6 HSE. Nothing but problems, mainly electrical, but also with the air suspension (which he eventually replaced with real coils). One time something funky happened where he couldn't get into the vehicle. Had it towed to the local Rover dealer, they couldn't either. Ended up having to order a whole new set of lock cylinder from ENGLAND, so he was driving a rental Chevy for about two months! (To this day I'm still not sure how they got his truck on the flatbed.)

There is a difference between what you are doing and "consumer protection". This is an enthusiasts' board, a place for people of like-minded interests to interact and enjoy something together. I am new here, but I can say this place has value to me. I don't see any value in what you are doing, to you or anyone else. Supposedly, Rover electronics got a bit more reliable when they switched suppliers from Lucas to Bosch around 2000 or 2001.

Their air-suspension, however, was always failure-prone. Most anyone who's modded their P38 Rangie has swapped out the airbags for springs.

Never said ALL had blinders on. Only the ones who won't accept any criticism of their prized vehicle. READ CAREFULLY PLEASE. I liked the Land Cruiser. I'm not a Land Cruiser basher. Please quit twisting things that way. Makes me think some of you were an "only child" . Its well known many of them have a hard time taking any criticism and lash out at anyone who does.
The "value" is that someone may read mine( and quite a few others) negative opinions on this site and decide for THEMSELVES that the Land Cruiser, as an older used model, may NOT be the right car for THEM. The only reason I still post on this forum is the few who purposely misrepresent what I've said and won't address the actual issues being discussed. Benson, why won't you address the Exahust manifold fiasco, the premature starter failures, the TPS failures, the exploding differentials, and all the numerous other "negative" aspects of these vehicles instead of just attacking anyone who does? You've built your whole life around Toyota worship only to find your God has flaws. Deal with it!

Wow, I've got every one stirred up on this one. Like I've said before, it wasn't flood damaged and it came from a reputable used car dealer. The dealership owner actually had been driving it for about a year. I have the carfax to prove it. He wouldn't risk his license just to sell one vehicle.
Flood damage wouldn't account for any of the problems I had anyway. You guys with the blinders on need to read more carefully. Most of my problems are VERY common problems with these vehicles. To assume if a Toyota fails it must be the owners fault is absurd. I just got a bad one thats all. The dealer I bought it from probably knew he had a bad one as well and got rid of it. Just like I did.
I paid top dollar for it and it looked and drove like new. Please someone, show me how "preventative maintenance" can prevent starter failure, TPS failure, alternator failure, cracked manifolds, etc. Must be some trick I don't know.
Its like the people who buy Bose speakers. They pay way too much for mediocre sound systems because the want to blindly rely on name brand recognition instead of actually learning about the REAL positives and negatives.
I've owned a lot of vehicles, foreign and domestic, and I've learned they all have advantages and disadvantages. And I don't base my buying decision on marketing or what mommy and daddy always bought. Or a lemon vehicle I bought 20 years ago.
I said the LC was a very nice vehicle. Just not perfect. So some of you need to get your panties out of a wad and get over it. The LC is not made by God. Don't get offended. I'd expect that on a Ford forum. The redneck kneejerk response to any criticism. The only reason I still post on this forum is so the blinder wearing crowd can't shout down the truth. Potential buyers have a right to know. I've owned probably 30 vehicles in my life and NEVER had a lemon. Never even had what I would call a problem vehicle. My luck ran out and it just happened to be the vaunted Land Cruiser. Bad odds, yes. But people win the lottery every day with odds a lot worse.

Is this guy still posting? Look, I don;t own a 100 series and I am here to do research on them, but the 9 other Toyotas I have owned have all been very very reliable. Just because you were taken advantage of doesn;t mean you need to alienate the whole brand. How do you know that the car did not have previous damage? It's a fact, you don't. Carfax is not god either, and there have been many occasions where carfax did not know about an accident/damage. When you buy a car used it is just that, used. You should have bought the car new, then started with your bashing. If that was the case I would put more stock in your comments, but since I know that you feel betrayed by Toyota it is hard to accept your comments at face value. I would be angry as well for getting taken advantage of, and I would somehow try and hold the seller responsible since it is known that this vehicle typically does not have a history of severe failures. And as it was mentioned earlier that you mostly hear people complaining about things here because that is what this forum is for, for people to post their problems and for others to offer a solution that they have possible already completed. It seems that you have purchased a domestic car as the replacement. Was it new? If so, I'd bet it has more problems new in 100,000 miles then you cruiser did. But even if it did you probably wouldn;t admit it.

I have seen what happens to some of my friends that drive domestic. But not all of them have had bad experiences. I have also seen what happens to foreign manufacuters when the Americans start to have a lot of influence aka Mercedes. They went from quality to not so quality in a short time. But the gap between the domestics and the Japanese cars is narrowing right? That just means that the domestics are finally starting to get close to an acceptable level, but they still have a ways to go before they can achieve high build quality. Next time when buying a USED car I would focus on not getting taken advantage of. I mean paying a premium for a used car that is known to have so many problems, if it was that common how come you didn't know about them before?? Why didn;t you just buy it new?

Sorry, but I had to say something, I couldn;t let this guy bash all cruisers just because of the one ABused cruiser he bought. I have had problems with a Jeep, a Buick, and a Chevy. So that mens that all American cars are junk by your rational right? I know that American cars don;t all suck, but with Toyotas you have fewer problems and this is well documented. Don;t get me wrong, I know Toyotas break too, but with much less frequency than others. Most people here know this, that is why I have 4 Toyotas all with high miles. Just my $0.02.

Where are they? Isn’t it reasonable to assume that anyone who posts on ih8mud that has had those problems would have posted about them here, and that they’d be here for you and everyone else to see?

The thing you are failing to realize is that, as a tech forum, people with problems post them up here for solutions. Scan the pages of this section, and you don't see too many problems. Scan the pages of a Rover, Jeep, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc.... tech forum, and you see quite a bit more.

And, even allowing you the benefit of the doubt in everything you've said, that you want to come back an add "balance" to the Land Cruiser reviews.... dude, you've already done that. It's not like once you stop typing your drivel here, all your posts disappear. People can read all about the problems you've had along side all the praise from everyone else and judge for themselves.

But, as it is, every time we post with facts and reason, you look like a bigger idiot.

And every time you post with your twisted logic, circular arguments, and stupid effin pictures you got from whiskey tango forums that don't really even make contextual sense with your weak arguments, you look like a bigger idiot.

Look around, most of the posts here are asking how to fix something that broke. We fix it, and move on to the next upgrade or problem. We did not drink the Toyota Kool Aid, we just realize this is not a forum for bashing, but for enjoying the process of owning a Toyota! Your posts makes it less enjoyable.

If/when I have a problem with my starter or TPS I will be grateful for your experience as it will make my life easier. I will shut up now.:shotts:

I'll let you in on a little secret, it's called Audiogon. There you can find a nice mint pair of Vandersteen 1c's for around $400. Argueably, the 1c is the best deal in the Vandersteen line as they are much easier to drive than the bigger speakers and are still good for full range use.

When you get ready to really step up to the plate, get some Maggies. Once you drink the Maggie Kool Aid, there is no going back. Earlier this year, in an effort to downsize my system and have some more space, I purchased a pair of Vandersteen 3a Signatures. They made it 2 weeks in the system and then the Maggies went back in.

Now you just need some nice triode monoblocks to run those things. I have heard those Chinese ones for $200-300 each are actually really nice sounding. Listen to them the way that Paul Klipsch intended.
