You say this but you have not experienced the 100-series action in 4-Lo (going by your signature).

While going really slow (as you say above) the ABS will not kick in (as I already stated) and it will let you skid. Above a certain speed it will activate in order to help maintain control.

Lemmon is the same as the worst in, say, Denali National Park in Alaska. When you've got a state that competes with New Hampshire for the title of "world's worst weather" based on the overland wind speed record, I think AZ falls somewhere WAY down on the list...

OK...so for Alaska, don't buy a 100. For everywhere else, the 100's superior. :D

I lead a run this weekend with the Norcal guys. There were 3 stock rigs in the group. Two series and one 100 series. All Lexus vehicles.
The all did very well, they got over all the obstacles. However, the adjustable hydraulic lift on the 100 series failed in the middle of the trail. From one moment to the next the 100 series lost 3" of lift. It was a good thing that it happened right round the time we were about to turn around and return the way we came. It was all down hill.

Over the years, this is the 3rd time I've seen this happen. Does that make the 100 series a bad truck? Certainly not. But I from now on I'd be cautious to take a 100 series with a hydraulic lift on any trail that's more than a forest servie road.
The 100 series endured damage to it's bumpers and running boards because of the lack of height.

If you look at them with a lupe, all vehicles will have issues. On the 100 series, it seems to me that those issues are due to Toyota changing the purpose of the Land Cruiser. From a utilitarian vehicle, to one that defines luxury and refinement.

Sounds like pilot error. the height will adjust based on speed. Maybe they were going over 18 mph??
 
If the LX was loaded near full capacity, I can see how transferring weight to either the front or rear as in an incline/decline could make the suspension revert to low mode.

Just FYI, since I've changed my springs, I've had no problem with the suspension reverting to low mode when loaded.

Nope, We were going at 3 or 4 mph tops. Very slow over the rocks. You can't very fast on a single lane rocky trail with 9 other cruisers.
This was a day trip. The cruiser had no extra weight in it. Just a passenger and his lunch bag.

Maybe it was the big mac in that lunch bag, they weigh a ton.

Not in my book. :) I wheel 80's all the time and far prefer the 100 even on the toughest of trails. I have one trail we run where I prefer the LX450 for it's fun factor.

I don't tout AHC. I don't have AHC. My suspension has never failed me and I don't know of other 100 suspensions that have failed either....though I'm not a LX-470/AHC expert.

I do know I have run one difficult trail here in AZ unscathed whereas 2 other 100's had damage and/or broke. Our 100's were built differently...mine the most aggressive.

Alvaro's conclusion doesn't hold water in my book based on my experience. (Except maybe for AHC which I cannot speak). My 100's been through hell and today it still is like new compared to my 80's which are beat.

I've been on several trips where 80 bumpers got destroyed too. Wake up Alvaro!. You want pics of 80's with destroyed running boards and bumpers. I've got them. My 100 didn't get any damage on these same trips. BE OBJECTIVE DUDE!

Ya, this forum is full of laughs and Alvaro's post made for a great one!

NOW...had he a mentioned that that particular trail was so intense...one of the harder/est and the 100's simply needed a 4-6" lift along with 35's in order to complete them OK then that's objective....and the response would have been that for those upper 5% of the trails out there, an 80 is better due to taller lifts.

Speaking about messed up stock bumpers is just hilarious. :grinpimp:

Objective?
You sound like you are fair and balanced. Just like the network. Where they read something and interpret it as something else.
When did I put the vehicle because of bumpers or running boards?
As a result of the AHC failing, the 100 series took more damage from the trail. The rig was as tall as my grandmother's Caprice Classic station wagon.

John, I love the 100 series. I'm planning to get one. I just would not take it on a trail with AHC. I'd get a lift kit on it first.
