100 threw up the CEL today on the way into work, the VSC Off light on the dash lit up as well.

Dropped it at dealer, they just called me back, and are saying that it's throwing code P0430, and the the catalytic converter's clogged, truck isn't breathing properly, don't recommend driving it until fixed, etc etc etc.

They want $1700 for the parts, $300 for labor.

Is this nuts? Cuz it sounds nuts to me...

If so...get EMS mid pipes with one cat per side.

Called them and told them not to order I was coming to pick it up. No way I can see paying $2k for exhaust...

So, I guess I can do the below:

EMS midpipes with dual CATS only @ $200 per side: http://www.emspowered.com/storefron...uct_info&cPath=61_119_199_200&products_id=758

And if I'm feeling froggy, go ahead and add in the full exhaust setup on sale for $399 right now
http://www.emspowered.com/storefron...uct_info&cPath=61_119_199_200&products_id=757

Even after both, I'd still be at 40% cost of just the cats from the dealership??

Sorry for all the rambling, really have no time to think this through right now...

And then tighten the gas cap. :D

My cats went out a long time ago. Both spit out the internals, so my OEM cats are pretty much non functional. I bought some EMS pipes, then sold them. There were bits flying out the the cat pipes when I unbolted the muffler, I thought I left a tool inside, it was the cat material rattling around.

So what are you running now?

I really don't want to leave it in a state where I couldn't easily sell it if I got in a bind (it is still a $25k asset), so I want to do something...

Buy a scan gauge or a usb code reader. I paid about $25 from amazon and use it with my Android phone.

this. I use the ELM127 bluetooth dongle plugged into my port with the tourque app. It will allow you to read and reset codes. You can also unplug the battery and wait for ten minutes. Buy a new gas cap as one that doesn't seal properly can cause a vacuum in the system and pop an emissions code.

I use this one.

Just bought a ScanGuageII and hooked it up, it was throwing the code they said. Cleared it and the light went off.

I'm assuming it will throw the code again if there is really an issue??

I would sell it and replace it with a Cruiser without AHC.

You been thinking of spending the $ to have that removed. Now exhaust?

Screw that. Start over.

Killing me...it's an 06, only 100k miles, and I've checked into finding an 03-05 to replace it with, not much luck cause I'm so picky. Took me a year to settle on this one. Plus it's a known quantity at this point...I'd rather spend the $$ on the exhaust and suspension than start over.

Clear the code and drive it. Bad gas cap, bad fuel, etc can cause those symptoms. I've had 3 cars throw similar codes and none kicked them up again after clearing them.

Of course if you just WANT to spend money get back to the 40

Reset code. Drive like its stolen.

Find non AHC replacement.

Amen...

Killing me. Keeping the truck. I can flip it to standard suspension for $1700. I'd have to put a lift on anything I bought anyway, just not worth the hassle.

I did take it for a long drive after work today. Something is def not right. It's sluggish, and there is a notable stutter during acceleration through all gears...

Gas cap is tight. O2 sensor wouldn't cause this, right?

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD, and hopefully approved by the NSA.

My dealer wanted to sell me some catalytic converters too. For the same code

I got ems midpipes and Doug thorley cat back

About 4 months of driving - no code
