During a plug torque inspection on both of my 100's and plug replacement in my 02, i found that most of the coils had cracks in the insulator. I am going to replace the plugs in the 06 soon. So I am going to need at least 14, maybe 16 coils. I have a little bit of a barely, you wouldn't notice it if you weren't getting out of a 2022 gx, rough idle. I figure I should replace these but the cost is as bing crosby would put it as WOW, right between ouch and boing!

Toyota lists different part numbers for these rigs, but denso lists the same part. Obviously I would prefer, with the sale going on, to pickup the 16 coils for an 06 which is right now less than I can get the denso from an authorized seller.

Toyota lists

90919-02249, 90080-19027, and 90919-02259 for my 2006
90919-02230 for my 2002

Denso lists 673-1303 for both?

The 06 coils are $20 cheaper than the 02 coils.

Anyone have any idea as to what the deal is?

I have it on good authority that all denso and toyota coils for the 2UZ-FE are the same.
I bought "lightly used" (50k miles) ignition coils for 2003-2007 100 Series here on mud
and installed them on my '99 along with some Denso Iridium TT plugs and all is working perfectly.

To be accurate, I actually bought 6, received 7 and have one old one still in the mix.

Buy the Densos from RockAuto. $50 a pop.

Call the parts department, give them your VIN and they can tell you.
I used that @ toyota.

Nervous about the number of counterfit units I seemed to find during my journey through the many threads trying to sus this out. I'm trying to go with Denso authorized sellers only.

Denso also sells replacement boot kits for the coil packs.

2003's where the same SKU and Item # as '99's on the DENSOProducts Site.
Same with RockAuto. Listed as 1998-2007 along with the superseded #'s
Right, that right there is where I get wrapped around the axle, it seems the Denso part number is EXACTLY the same for all of them, but toyota lists and charges different prices.

So I just did all of the coils on my 02 yesterday with 90919-02230’s. 270k miles on the originals. All had cracks. Original owner replaced one coil with a Denso part # 673-1303. From what I can tell, this part is the same as the 90919-02230 but with the toyota logo machined off and a denso label thrown up top. Here a few pics for reference.

The boots on the 90919-02230 seem to be of much better quality than the Denso # so there may be other differences as well that are not exactly noticeable to the naked eye.

No matter how many argue, a part with a Denso label and a part with TOYOTA and Denso labelled are very different in built quality. If you can afford go with OEM toyota coils. It is not about aesthetics, it is about the composition of interior parts, what percentage of certain mineral goes into the coil, what resistance, heat tolerance., etc., are far too superior in a TOYOTA part than a part with Denso. It goes into all parts.

I bought an OEM timing belt for my 4runner from Decatur Toyota and the belt is written TOYOTA and part numbers only. Mitsuboshi is the next quality but OEM can go for easy 15 years!

Speaking with Denso tech support. Rep said; Toyota logo ground off, mean Toyota gave Denso permission to sell in third market. Did he know what he was talking about or blowing smoke. IDK! But, why not caste with only Denso, and save time/cost grinding off something.:hmm:

The real Denso with top half ground off and lower half said made in Japan. Had a sticker on top with part number. If sticker removed, another part number was under it. IDK, what that other part number was for. But it is what motivated me to call Denso and question the coils made in Japan.

Today when we but Denso Coil from authorized distributor. They don't have this extra peel off sticker. They're also now made in China.:frown:

Why Toyota has multiple part numbers for our 4.7L, and Denso only one. IDK! But I suspect, is has to do with; environment laws was dealing with the manufacture proceeds use to reduce pollutants in the process, and a redesign reducing cost.

I've not notice any difference in performance in ones I've used (newer Toy denso vs Denso). Are the Toy Denso built to higher standard. That is usually the case.

I was told by my mechanic friend that Import Direct coils are made by Denso. Can anyone confirm that? They do look exactly like Denso but without markings.

I bought for my 2006, part number 90919-02259 from Serra Toyota of Decatur with their 25% off and free shipping was $63 each. I bought on 4/6 and was shipped 5/1 though. It’s only $13 extra each over the Denso, not too bad for piece of mind etc.
I've never had anything take that long from Serra, but I know others have. It seems like they are a victim of their own success.
As of right now, the 25% OFF + Free Shipping is up for 10 more days.
