Swapping over to the 2f and 4 speed comes with a few issues and the solutions I read dont always work out
I have a 71 with a 792F
1st issue
gas pedal linkage. After buying 2 sets of linkage to get a complete set I have found the cowl bracket will not mount so that the linkage runs straight. To run it straight back one of the mounts sticks out in the air where the tunnel is on the cowl.
anyone got a pic of how they solved this? a bracket? I am hoping to get this solved before my carb comes back from JIM C.
2nd issue
Driveshafts
I was given the larger diameter small shaft to hook up to the 2 F drum brake and the front drive output. I have the smaller flanges on the diffs but none of the drive shafts fit lengthwise. I have an HFS 4 inch lift also.
whats the easiest way to get up and running? changing the diff flanges? or getting the 3 speed driveshaft shortened?
if I order a flange what year do I get? Coarse or Fine spline?
3rd issue
I have moved the alternator to the rh side pending the power steering mod and the old F-eng Alt doesn't fit. I did some searching but am not sure if I should get an alt with an internal or external regulator. I would prefer a plug and play solution.
also I have an 8274 winch, will a 40 or 50 amp alt be enough?
which altenator should I order to get the right clocking for the rh mount
4th issue
Water pump
my 2f has an oil cooler but my eng came without a water pump pulley so I put the 1F pump on and capped the oil cooler. But, I want to put that right.
I ordered a dual pulley and a 1976 clutch and fan assy and Water Pump from SOR: (Fits 8/76-1/79 FJ40 California with oil cooler and fan clutch -SOR )
I think this will all work together but I am wondering if I will have issue with the radiator being too close to the fan. If I keep the shroud I will have to cut it out for the alt pulley I think
If anyone has already solved these issues and especially if you have pics I would appreciate your advice. I dont have much time to get this on the road cause I am moving soon!
