Swapping over to the 2f and 4 speed comes with a few issues and the solutions I read dont always work out

I have a 71 with a 792F

1st issue
gas pedal linkage. After buying 2 sets of linkage to get a complete set I have found the cowl bracket will not mount so that the linkage runs straight. To run it straight back one of the mounts sticks out in the air where the tunnel is on the cowl.

anyone got a pic of how they solved this? a bracket? I am hoping to get this solved before my carb comes back from JIM C.

2nd issue

Driveshafts

I was given the larger diameter small shaft to hook up to the 2 F drum brake and the front drive output. I have the smaller flanges on the diffs but none of the drive shafts fit lengthwise. I have an HFS 4 inch lift also.

whats the easiest way to get up and running? changing the diff flanges? or getting the 3 speed driveshaft shortened?
if I order a flange what year do I get? Coarse or Fine spline?

3rd issue

I have moved the alternator to the rh side pending the power steering mod and the old F-eng Alt doesn't fit. I did some searching but am not sure if I should get an alt with an internal or external regulator. I would prefer a plug and play solution.

also I have an 8274 winch, will a 40 or 50 amp alt be enough?
which altenator should I order to get the right clocking for the rh mount

4th issue

Water pump

my 2f has an oil cooler but my eng came without a water pump pulley so I put the 1F pump on and capped the oil cooler. But, I want to put that right.

I ordered a dual pulley and a 1976 clutch and fan assy and Water Pump from SOR: (Fits 8/76-1/79 FJ40 California with oil cooler and fan clutch -SOR )

I think this will all work together but I am wondering if I will have issue with the radiator being too close to the fan. If I keep the shroud I will have to cut it out for the alt pulley I think

If anyone has already solved these issues and especially if you have pics I would appreciate your advice. I dont have much time to get this on the road cause I am moving soon!

WOW, I thought my 2F conversion was going to be easy. I hope I dont have all these problems. I am just now getting my 2F rebuilt. Will be installing in a few weeks. Good luck.

EZ? What's that:)?

You will probably have at least some of them

Well it helps if you have a complete motor with all the accessories installed --they were stripped off mine so I am sorting all this out.

throttle linkage will be an issue for you too, but I believe there is a 1973 cable conversion that works--I just have to read up more, or hopefully make the linkage I have work---I am thinking of making my own bracket and use the bushings from the toyota one

Check out your fuel lines from the tank, and your ignition system as well if you got a dizzy with the motor you'll need a coil/igniter assy

wiring that up was really easy but it helps when someone tells you exactly what to do to make it work.

issues

Okay

I ordered an internal voltage regulator alternator from SOR I just need to find out how to bypass the external vr in my 71
so hopefully my alternator prob is sorted out now, I'll post up the results

Tomorrow I will do some searching on driveshafts in the area and see if there are any shops to help me out

I am just hoping the water pump issues work out with the parts I ordered

for the gas pedal linkage I may weld and extension piece onto the original firewall bracket to move the mount over to where it needs to be but secure both mount points and keep it rigid

1st, I used a 78 2F and 70 Aisin Carburetor,I would use Cable linkage is the Easiest. I don't know what kind you are using, mechanical ?

#2 Drive shaft, If you have the large pattern slip yoke at the transfer case pull that one from the drive shaft slip it into
the one that fits smaller differential side, the splines are the same, you can take this to the drive line shop and have It re-tubed to the right length.

#3 I used a later 2F Alternator and used the original wiring I untaped the wiring loom apart as to reach the right side of the engine and used the original 1966 voltage regulator works fine.

#4 I tried to use the oil cooler/fan clutch too but was having problems, too close to the radiator !
The fan being 1/4" larger was rubbing on the 2F style fan shroud.
I abandon the fan clutch Idea,
and bought a 1/76-8/76-2f water pump with Oil cooler and used the 8 blade fixed fan, works perfect.

BTW I am running power steering too.

I hope this helps, If you need pictures of anything let me know.... Joe C

Issue 2: The cheap solution is to get 4 speed shafts and flip them to use the 3 speed slip yoke at the differentials.

flip

Thanks

I thought you could do that but wasnt sure, are all 2f 4 speed diffs the same length? If I have to get them modified there's not much gain over modding the ones I have

appreciate the help ---it's been one of those days where nothing goes together:bang:

PO on my truck used the '72 carburetor (and airfilter) with the later 2F, and used the OEM gas pedal

I am unsure which bracket you are talking about - the gas pedal bracket inside the firewall bolts directly to the firewall

solutions

well my carb already went off to Jim C so I have to stick with that

the end of 51 which rotates goes thru 61 in the bracket top hole, the other 2 holes are to mount it to the cowl at least I am assuming unless anyone can tell me different. When I was looking for the linkage everyone kept reminding me not to forget the cowl or firewall bracket---unless they meant the pedal bracket???

all the spacing seems right for 60 to mount on the cowl though

51 doesnt actually look like the torque rod it has a u to make a crank in it ---I'll get a pic

bracket

Actually I think it might work like this, I was just worried about it not running straight but I threw it up there a different way and it looked like it might work.

anyone have a pic of how it is normally mounted?

Well if it works I'll post up when it is done it might help someone else

It would be nice to have this all sorted and ready for my carb when it comes back!
