Hello guys,

Can someone help me decide if I should paint my truck to the 033 White it left the production line in?

The truck is currently free born red and I am in for a calmer colour.

I cannot find any great photo's of 033 white, so if you have a 033 white fj40 kindly post some pics.

This is a 44 but it is factory white 033

would probably be cooler i.e. reflects heat, based on where you're located ... maybe helps resale value i.e. people seem to like the original colour on a truck ... to each their own of course, but I'm a bit of a traditionalist, and whatever the registration plate said the colour should be is what I'd paint it (even if I don't really like it - mine's beige and there's plenty of colours I like more) ...

X2. White is pretty rare, so to have a 40 that has the 033 stamped on the ID tag is awesome. GO FOR IT.

I think 033 white started in 1976. I think my truck is the last year for Cygnus White on the body. That said, I believe the two colors were fairly similar - 033 white was just a touch "whiter" where Cygnus white (T011, I think) had a bit more of a cream/yellow to it.

In either case - here is my truck, original paint. Faded and chipped. I've been debating the same thing since I bought it - keep it white when it comes time to repaint, or go with something more "interesting." That said - what others have said is true - you definitely don't see a lot of white 40's around!

Are you talking about my truck, or 033 white?

Cygnus white (T012) was the white used BEFORE 033 white. My understanding is that they are very close, but that 033 is just a tad bit brighter.

They stopped painting FJ40's Cygnus white in 1975, so if you have a white 40 from 1975 or earlier, it's probably T012 Cygnus, 1976 and on is (I think) 033. My truck is a 1975, so it should be T012 Cygnus White. @Colorado Boy-74-FJ40 - since yours is a 1974, it's probably Cygnus as well. More of a "cream" color than a true white.

I think there were a couple other "white" colors from the very early 60's and the early 80's but I'm not up to speed on when the transitions happened.

Mine is 031 white. It has some yellow/tan to it. Sorry, this is the best picture I have right now. I can get a better one later if you like.

Thank you guys I am fully convinced in painting it white now

Not sure if I can restore the ID tag of my car, P.O painted on it the current colour code of the car.

These cars dont exceed 10-15K over here. The thinking over here why would I buy a new $50,000 restored FJ40 when the same money I can get an equivalent Pickup or 2 door SUV for the same price etc.

Here you go, it's an 033 and it's located just south of you!
