for those that are interested, i am making an adapter plate for mounting a DOT/SAE factory tail light into these models.
i want to know who all is interested in these. i have no idea what they are going to cost in the end but the fit will be close to factory and should appease the powers that be.
email me direct if interested.
wayne@crushersrule.com
if you are an importer let me know at time of email.
time till delivery unknown at this time.
this will take care of the DOT issues once the head lights are changed out.

cheers

Interested pending cost.

Are there no issues surrounding the front corner lenses ?

the reason i am making the rears first is i have a few 77s that i need to get converted fast. then i will look at the rest of the light issues with the 78 series...
the prototype is almost done. both sides are roughed and need cleaning up and then painted. after that i will take pics. the actual units for sale will be fiberglass with black gelcoat so no painting required.
price is still undetermined.
cheers

i approached Toyota Japan for a letter of compliance for the 77/78 tail lights and was turned down. their response was "the 77/78 series was not designed for the North American market".
the adapters are almost completed and once done then i will need to get a bunch made up.
the first batch are for my customers with about 10 sets left over. these will be sold at half of the normal selling cost. (if there is enough interest then i can make more for the first batch.)
anyone, after the initial batch, that wants a set will pay full price. i do not feel obligated to sell at cost to help out the other importers or their customers.
cheers

Robin, you are already on the list. no problem. i have a few that have responded with a confirmation which is all i need.
cheers

just for information purposes, the adapted DOT lense and adapter is acceptable to every inspector i talked to except one. as for him, i am not concerned.
cheers

WAYNE:- I am intersested please put me down for one set.
Gotta get this LJ78 into compliance..
Let me know when you need my $$$ and shipping address..
Got ant pictures yet of the prototype?

Any one out there worked on the front Signal lenses for the LJ78 yet??

Rich

Richard,
there will be no need to send any money till the unit is done. i won't be workign on the units today but will be back at them tomorrow and should have a pic ready shortly.
the tail lights are first priority but then i will go after the fronts signals. i will check and see what comes close then build an adapter for those as well.
cheers

Wayne thanks for the update..
Appreciated.
Glad to hear you are going to attack the front signals as well
Sounds great ..
I'm on the list for the front signals as well ..

Regards

Richard

"E" code lights accepted

for those that might have missed this:

i phoned and confirmed this is the case, it is based on this website:
www.tc.gc.ca

http://www.tc.gc.ca/acts-regulations...0/mvsr108.html

(5) All the information regarding every type of bulb and every type of sealed beam lamp used in lighting equipment required by this section shall be

(a) specified for the type of bulb or sealed beam lamp in

(i) a standard or recommended practice issued by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE),

(ii) a regulation issued by the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), or

(iii) a standard issued by the International Electro-technical Commission (IEC); or

(b) provided, by the vehicle manufacturer at the Director General's request, to the Director General, Road Safety and Motor Vehicle Regulation Directorate, Transport Canada, 330 Sparks Street, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0N5.

sad to say this still doesn't help the 77/78 tail light issue. the rest of the 78 series now conforms to the specs.

cheers

Robin
Good to hear you are also looking at the Front signals for the LJ 78.
I also look forward to seeing your progress.
Possibly another option.

FWIW, I'm also working on a solution for the front signals. Hopefully I'll know by this weekend whether or not it's going to work.

I'll let the forum know if I am successful.

Robin

Well Robin how did you make out with your solution??
Any progress??:D

Check out this thread..
Things are heating up in Ontario. JDM's registration temporarily suspended..Maybe??
This will have far reaching impacts on a lot of people in the business of JDM imports here in Ontario.

Wayne --
I feel the next thing thay are going to do is start pulling those of us that are on the roads over for inspections.. Can you tell me how long before the DOT tail light kit is going to be.

JDM registration was on hold because of the export document - MTO wasn't accepting it anymore. With some pursuading by several organisations it was reversed and all is good now.

I'm glad to see that there are many more than just our sector involved
in this JDM thing and that they are in this looking for resolutions as well..

Just got home from a visit to a part store here where the fellow who runs the store has a JDM sports car(can not remember the model).
He was pulled over a few days ago by the MTO.
His vehicle was inspected by them right then and there..
His experience -- they were quite nice while they checked his car from top to bottom.. and were totally pleased with the vehicle. They passed him and gave him a copy of the inspection sheets (more than one) and told him if he had any problems to show the inspection sheet or call a number on it.

So it has started here in Ontario.
