I'm planning to install the ARB's deluxe bull bar and Warn's 12000lbs winch on my 2004 V8 LC (middle east specs).. I have a couple of concerns..

the vehicle is factory equipped with automatic height control.. (the one that is usually on the LX470).. it also came with a factory installed 4000lbs (not sure about the lbs) winch..

would the added weight cause a problem? should I change the OEM torsion bars etc?

also, would the vehicle be correctly leveled by the automatic height control or the added weight would cause the car to slant forward even more?

I'm planning to use the existing wiring of the OEM winch to install the WARN winch but after removing the OEM winch, can the bull bar be fitted normally or would it require some other parts? (the bull bar is made for 2004 LC IFS model as per ARB's specs)

P.S. I'm a noob when it comes to mechanics, installations etc so the bar is going to be installed by ARB's dealer who have not installed a bull bar on a ride like mine.. (they installed many bars for 80 series and none IFS 100 series)

thanks in advance ;)

Hello,
You probably introduced yourself already, but again welcome to the forum.
Where is this all happening?

Thanks for the welcome.. :)

it's happening hopefully in Kuwait..

ah so you have some neat toys then...
does the 100 come with Diesel at all?

Any pictures of your middle eastern spec cruiser?

@hoser

I'll take some tomorrow and port them here..

I would ensure that the wiring for the factory winch was large enough to handle the load from the larger winch. Most of the time the factory wiring is not any larger than required to save money and weight.

I saw a 100 series at ARB's dealer here that might have been a diesel.. it was bullet proof and belongs to the danish army most likely for use in Iraq.. gas prices here are fixed and cheap so deisel is not very popular..

accourding to toyota's agent's web page Here they have the 4.2 diesel.. I never saw it in the show room but they can probably get it.. I could ask them if they get 100's with diesel if you want...

The suspension should self level, however you are putting extra stess on the hydraulic shocks by installing the bar and winch. The owners manual states the maximum additional weight for the rear, but not the front.

The way the suspension is designed is that the torsion bars and rear springs support the vehicle weight on the lowest setting of the hydraulics. So when you are in low mode, the hydraulic shocks are not helping at all, so that is essentially the base spring rate. You can mark the sensors for the front suspension at this point, then fit a stiffer front torsion bar (which will raise the truck a little). Add the accessories, and the adjust the sensor back to the original position. This way the truck now thinks that is the lowest point it can be and when you raise it the suspension will level out.

This way you have a stiffer spring to help carry the load, but you did not effect the self leveling etc. Not sure on your application, but in the us the LX470 torsion bars are thinner than the equivalent Land Cruiser without hydraulic suspension. So when we did my truck, we used Land Cruiser torsion bars. I only ran a 9500 winch. With a 12k winch, you might be better to try a set of the new Old Man Emu ones

Just curious to know.............how much is gas/petrol and diesel in Kuwait?

were payin over $2.00 a gallon for regular, could you guys open the valve over there?

Thanks for the info.. I'll make sure they keep that in mind when installing the bar and winch.. just to double check if my LC is the same as your LX.. I only have three settings.. low, normal and high.. low can be only used when the vehicle is not moving.. so that's the settings I need to mark right?

@Bennett
I thought you guys paid more than that.. as I used to pay more that $2 if I recal when I was in the states.. anyways accourding to KNPC (they own all gas stations here for now) these are the gas prices converted to $US (you'll need to convert them to gallons though 1 liter = 0.2641721 gallon)

Sr. No. Product Type Unit Rate ($)
1 Leaded Gasoline Ltr .246
2 Unleaded Super Ltr .229
3 Unleaded Premium Ltr .211
4 Gas Oil Ltr .193
5 Kerosene Ltr .193

there's also here an Ultra Super which is quite expensive (@ US$0.316 per Ltr) but cleaner than the above garbage

the good and bad thing is that these prices are fixed regardless of crude oil prices.

Tuesday is no good.. send me your platinum amex on Thursday and I'll be happy to buy it for you on Saturday along with a mega cruiser for myself :P

we have isntalled an ARB bumper on a LC80 with original winch Dubai spec or M. E. Spec LC without any problems all mounting holes were used just like any LC80 we have done. The only difference is that the owner opted to use the original toyota electric winch and changed the roller fairlead to a one that is made by ward to fit the ARB opening.

i guess you wont encounter any problem fitting an ARB bumper on your LC100. as most LC100's here are mostly M.E. spec just like yours. and we also have some diesel LC100 here.

@TFS55

@e9999

wops.. made a mistake with the conversion.. it's fixed now..

Nice looking cruiser! does it have anything fancy like armour in the doors and bulletproof glass. I have seen those on websites for transporting VIP's.

@brownbear

nope.. nothing fancy.. armor and bullet proof glass would make a land cruiser sink like a rock in soft sand i think.. saw one of those at a shop here one time though.. along with a six wheel drive LC.. which was fancier than the bullet proof one me thinks ;)
