I did the de-smog according to the guide in Tech section. Then I found conflicting info concerning the very last 2 vacuum lines on being capped, OR to run a jumper hose between the 2? It said that without the jumper hose, it would run rich all the time. What do you guys that have de-smogged their FJ62's think about this? Thanks

If one of those lines comes from a vacume source (intake manifold) and the other leads to the fuel pressure regulator, then yes it will run rich. If the FPR can't sense the level of vacume the engine is operating at, then the fuel will be at max pressure regardless of engine load. The extra pressure will cause a richer condition. WOT would not be affected regardless, and that's pretty much how you have to drive a stocker to make it get out of its own way.:D

Hope this helps.

Thanks. What is WOT? I traced the hard metal vacuum lines down, one is run ning to intake manifold. I pulled off the 2 vacuum caps in question, and replaced with a small jumper hose, when I did this fuel spit out of 1 of the caps under pretty high pressure. I will run it this way and see if I notice a difference.

I wish someone would have updated the desmog guide, I am sure that there are lots of members running around with de-smogged trucks running too rich because they followed and trusted the guide, like me.

Do you need to stick the VSV back in the picture too, or will it behave okay with a constant vacuum signal?

I read a little, looks like the VSV is only in the picture to richen it up a bit at start-up. Apparently not missed.

There shouldnt be any fuel in your vacuum lines, what are you talking about?

I dont remember messing with the FPR lines at all.

In the desmog guide it says to put 7 vacuum caps on the hardlines. Actually it seems that this is not right; you need to loop back the last 2, closest to firewall, so as to not run rich. One is vacuum from manifold, and one is to FPR.

De-smoged FJ62; Here are some pics of my custom exhaust, no cats, and pipes tucked up under frame. Muffler shop cutoff downpipes about two inches from exhuast maniflold and was able to join both into a 2to1 setup, 2.5" pipe, going to a high flow muffler, all nicely tucked in out of harm. Tube from vacuum lines now looped back. Still am making EGR block off plate, and pull EGR crap.

Nice pipes. I wish i would have known about the no cat thing when i did mine:whoops:. Everybody that i spoke with about said NOOOOOOO you need them to run. Thats ok I am running them anyway:beer:

Thanks for the pictures! On the exhuast;when I ask mark w. from Alaska, he said he's running this way with no problems, that was the clincher for me, plus the muffler guy agreed as well. It breathes so good now, sounds amazing after running stock on every other cruiser I have owned. Very glad I did it!

;) Yea I will know next time. The reasoning I was told was the cats also act as a baffle, anotherwards the create a back pressure so the 02s can read.

Oh, so the hardline that runs to the FPR under the manifold is fed from that bank of ports? That doesnt make sense to me, the FPR should see constant manifold vacuum, and i dont think it has a switch or anything. Ill have to look at my rig when i get home. I did notice it smelled a little rich....

Mine is tied in to the constant vac. Does not run rich at all.
