I am in need of steel wheels for my 100 Series. I know, I know, alloy wheels are lighter, less wheel mass, yadda, yadda. No need for logical arguments, my desire to run steel wheels is tied to my Third World Paranoia (TM), I just can't think of being in the middle of nowhere with wheels that *can't* be beat back into submission with a BFH.....

The 'Melon is a '99 so I can run 16" wheels. But so far my search has yielded absolutely *nothing*. I know steel wheels are available in other markets but I can't find a parts number that will come up in the US system. I have the part # for the Venezuelan '79 Series steel wheel (16x8" and *perfect* for my application), but it looks like it's a Venezuela-only part #...D'OH!

Anyway, I'm not giving up yet! For the time being, I'll pass on the Stockton Wheels option. It's not that I'm opposed to custom wheels, but I need eight (8) of them (five for the Cruiser and three for the trailer), that's going to be too much $$$. Ditto for the Tundra steel wheel (which I went to see at the Toyota dealership on Friday), I just don't want to run 18" wheels/tires.

Some of our Canadian colleagues offered up some split steelies that will fit, but those don't fit into the long-term plan...maybe buy three of them for the trailer?

Stay tuned, I'm not resting until I got the big beast sitting on steelies!

PS: I'm sitting here staring at "Australia 4WD Monthly" and the steel wheels that come on the "poverty pack" 100 Series over there, thinking about how we get hosed here...forget the diesel engine and manual tranny, can't we get a stinking steel wheel???

and the question is.....? :D

or are you just celebrating a 3 day weekend...?

No question, just reporting back to the forum....

Does Unique make a wheel that would work? A plain old Unique 16" should only be $50-60 per wheel.

Christo, could you explain what's involved in doing a bolt pattern conversion on the rear axle? Could the front IFS be easily converted as well?

are you converting the trailer to 5 lug?

That's the long term plan, probably upgrading the whole axle at the same time if hubs with the same bolt pattern as the 100 are available...

The 79 series wheels, as a rule, will not fit a 100 series LC (with IFS). They have the same stud pattern but different offsets. That is the case in oz anyway.

We sent them to Moser and had them weld up the old holes and redrill to 6 on 5.5 and machine the hub to accept 80 series weels and still be hub centric. We drilled the rotor ourselves.

As to the front, not sure, I do not believe the 80 hub will fit the 100 spindle.

Thanks, Donald! I see "poverty pack" 100s pictures in Aussie 4x4 magazines with what appear to be factory steel wheels. I'm desperately trying to find a part #, any chance you can assist?

There are lots of 100 series steel wheels on ebay OZ all the time, this includes the 8" steel wheels to suit the IFS or the 8" steel to suit the solid axle. Only problem is shipping them to the US, they weigh 25kg each IIRC. Man-a-fre or Slee may be able to do something when they get a container of goods shipped possibly. As for the part number, I don't know, but occasionally new ones come up on ebay with part number quoted

I believe(99%) the steel whell for the HDJ100/UZJ100 16x8JJ is 42601-60600, check if CDAN can order them (I think he has done special orders before, but may need a quantity)

Member, moooooooo, also has a set of those on his '04 IFS 100.

I've been thinking about this too. What about having custom spacers made converting the 5 both to the 6 on 5.5. I'm not even sure this is possible due to the position of the studs. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Toyota engineers had some ideas about this so they went with the current bolt pattern.

I'm not sure it can be done either but I foresee one other problem... most 6 on 5.5 wheels are between 0 and 25mm offset. Add a 1" wheel adapter and your wheels will stick out 2.5-3.5" out more than stock (given an 8" width wheel). But if you could find a 6 on 5.5 wheel with a 50-60mm offset, you might be okay.

Not to mention the obvious, but...---You had steel wheels, a diesel and a manual transmission. Look how that turned out.:flipoff2:

I think you need to go the other way and get some spinnaz. Pimp the ride, bruddah!

Anyway, I don't know if this applies to 100 series, but when I wanted cheap steel wheels for my 80, Les Schwab got them for me, only $40 each. Norcaldoug got the same wheels from America's Tire. I assume you have looked at those places.

One last thing. There is a way to get custom backpaced, and unpainted wheels from Summit racing. Do a search here on ih8mud-I think "mr Manny" had the info 6 months or so ago. The only hang up might be the 100 series 5 lug pattern.

Good luck Henry.

Stockton Wheel I believe is the only source for 5-lug 16" steel hundy wheels...but they aren't $40.
