Timing belt vs. timing chain-Belt could be better?

I have owned my 99 Land Cruiser for 13+ years now, and now that my rig is 17 years old I have come to appreciate having a timing belt on it. I am somewhat anal about car maintenance, and I like that the old 4.7 is Designed to have its timing components serviced, vs being "lifetime". There's a...

For Sale  98-02 OEM 16x8 Land Cruiser wheel+center cap

I am selling a Toyota wheel and center cap that fits 98-02 Land Cruisers. I actually have up to 3 that I could sell, though I would prefer to keep 1 for myself. $60 for each wheel/center cap+ shipping costs. I have a pic of 1 of the wheels, the other 2 are up in my attic. I can snap pics of...

Wanted  Oem drivers side running board for '99 Land Cruiser

I seek help locating an OEM running board on the driver's side for my '99 Land Cruiser. My wife ran our rig off the road in an ice storm a few weeks back. Someone posted in another bread that many here have removed their running boards and could possibly have them laying around collecting dust...

Help with identifying suspension crash damage.

Well my wife slid off the road today in this ice storm. She hit the curb hard and it looks like some suspension damage. Can anyone chime in as to what appears to have been damaged? The front drivers side wheel looks to be "pushed in" a couple of inches. Notice in the second pic the red...

2000 mile round trip to Canada in my 16 year old LC!

We just got back from a trip to Winnipeg to see the USA Women's World Cup match. Even though my rig is now 16 years old and has 184,000 miles, it ran perfectly, and didn't burn any oil at all. I did have a check engine light after putting in some Canadian gas, not sure if that was coincidental...

    Console shift indicator off kilter

Does anyone know how to readjust the console transmission indicator? When I am in drive, the shifter indicates Neutral. The weird thing is that the indicator is correct when in Park. This pic is when I am in "D".

    Brake fluid leak from reservoir?

I noticed a bit of brake fluid that could be coming from the reservoir area. Has anyone had a brake fluid leak caused by the rubber grommets that are underneath this reservoir? I imagine at 15 years old, they are hard and brittle by now. I have only had to add fluid a couple of times in the...

How many miles on your original ABS pump?

I've got 170, 000 on mine. I didn't realize until recently from this board that a new part is about $2100!!! Seems like a lot of $$$ for an ABS pump. I just want to know for my own knowledge how many more miles I can expect out of mine. Seems like a few have had to replace in the 200,000+ range.

Dumb question-Cylinder #'s, which is which?

I've searched, and I can't find a listing as to which cylinder is what number. I want to keep a note in my truck along with my code reader and a few extra coil packs for a long road trip I'm taking next month. This will make life much easier incase one of these crap on me while I'm in BFE...

Just had timing belt done after 10 yrs/67k miles

Well, I finally bit the bullet and had my timing belt done for the second time since I bought the vehicle almost 10 years ago. I tossed and turned about it, because we had only put 67,000 miles since the last change. Low miles, but the time elapsed had me worried about the belt possibly rotting...

    Timing Belt-time vs. mileage

Hey guys, I had my timing belt and water pump replaced in October 2002 with OEM parts. I have only driven 57,000 miles since then, but I wonder if I should consider having the timing belt and water pump replaced again due to the number of years that have passed. Have we had any reports of...

Permanent solution to the weak Key Shell problem!!

I'm sure many of you here have had problems with their OEM Toyota Key Shell breaking on them. It is due to an inherently bad design. In my case, the metal portion of the key broke out of the plastic shell. My Toyota dealer wants $350 for a completely new key. No way! My solution was...

Need help finding a new lower tailgate.

I was rear ended last week, and I'm trying to save a little $$ by finding my own parts. I am having trouble finding a new lower tailgate however. Any ideas?

Pics of getting rear ended on interstate

The Tank protected us well. My wife and kids were in the car, and the kids car seats performed perfectly. The VW Jetta that hit me did not fare so well.

Has anyone replaced leather seats on their 100?

I'm looking into replacing the leather seats in my 99 Land Cruiser, but can't seem to find any places that have patterns already made. Anyone done this on their rig before? Thanks, Chris

    Loud squeaking in reverse-parking brake?

The squeaking only happens when moving in reverse, no noise at all going forward. Is my parking brake sticking, or could it be something else? Is adjusting the parking brake an easy DIY? Thanks, Chris

Any pics of monochromatic paint scheme?

I'm considering having the bumpers and side moldings painted black to color match the entire car. I'm wondering if anyone else has done this, so I can get an idea of what it looks like.

Can 1 wrong sized tire cause major problems?

My spare tire is a different size than the other 4 tires. The spare is the original sized tire, while the other 4 are a slightly different size. I talked to a coworker who has a Sequoia and a tire shop placed 1 wrong sized tire accidentally on his car. He had it on for 1 year, and after using...

How often is everyone repacking front bearings?

I know that the manual calls for every 30k, but is everyone here really following through on this? I bought my truck back in Oct 2002 with 96k and 4 months later I had a clicking/grinding noise which turned out to be a simple front bearing repack. My hunch is that the original owner never had...

Does anybody else here flush coolant the old fashioned way?

When I do my coolant flush I still do it the old way: 1. Drain Coolant 2. Add 100% water to cooling system, start engine and let idle for 5-7 minutes with heater on full blast. 3. Repeat process 4-5 times. 4. When I add coolant at the end, I put in a 60% mixture to make a...
