Well, I finally bit the bullet and had my timing belt done for the second time since I bought the vehicle almost 10 years ago. I tossed and turned about it, because we had only put 67,000 miles since the last change. Low miles, but the time elapsed had me worried about the belt possibly rotting away.
Well, my worries were unfounded. The belt was in PERFECT condition! Maybe I will wait 12-15 years next time, lol. I just wanted to share my findings with those of you who don't put that many miles on their rigs. My rig is garage kept, so that probably is a factor in this as well. Even though it turns out that I did not need a new belt, the peace of mind is nice.
Also, thanks to BENO for supplying me the parts at a nice discount!

Here are some pics. The middle picture must be the stitching to keep the belt together? I kind of picked at it, that's why it looks frayed.

I just did mine, should have had ~90K on it. Looked about the same. The pulleys and idlers at ~175K on the other hand were a whole different story:frown:

UZ engines are really easy on timing belts. I've done a few 1UZ TBs and they always looked great, even when over mileage by a large amount.

I love showing this - 11 years 130,000 miles timing belt.

100k-130K miles on any UZ family timing belt from the factory is probably average as I am seeing and have seen in my own experience.

Remember, 90k is a conservative Toyota engineering baseline.

That is good to know. My 01 has 79K total miles, garage kept in No Cal up to 74K and now garaged in Denver. I think I will wait to have Robbie do it around 100K.

I had my 99 done in 2006 and it only had 45K miles on it but it was 7 years old. It did need to be changed, but my 99 100 series was a Az 100series and I think the heat of the desert states while good for clean no rust cruisers is very hard on rubber parts so if you live in NV or AZ I would use the 7 year recommendation from Toyota.
