ABS Alarm and Dash Light On

I recently had my rear breaks done and a couple of days later an alarm (high pitch tone) and an ABS dash light came on. Tech stream says ABS pump presser etc… I take it back to my mechanic that did the breaks and he says it’s an ABS control module. He also says its $3500 or more to fix. First...

The 100 Series Truck or Towboat?

After repairing the AC I took the family on a 6 day camping / sailing adventure. Four passengers, a 16 foot camper, two bikes, a sailboat and tons of gear for a week. Not a wimpier. She is setting a bit low in this pic as she was in the LO position. I will need to "stiffen-up" the rear with...

The Great Oil Debate Synthetic, Semi, or Traditional

So I'm at my sometime mechanic / Toyota Guru talking about changing my ac compressor when I ask a very simple question. That question it seems is one of great debate. You see I'll be removing the oil filter to get the compressor out and wanted to make sure I had a quart or two on hand to top off...

Windshield Repair Kit, Do or Don't?

Question: Am I the only one that feels incredibly bad when we do something to our 100's that could have been avoided? A paint chip? A ding? In my case, I won't get into the details, but I put an every so small crescent crack in my windshield. O.K. I'll tell you, I was working on my rack when one...

    ECU Swap for Key Replacements

So I only have one valet key to my 1998 LX 470. I've done my homework and it looks like Mauser is the resident expert. He has offered to send my a "virginized" EÇU to swap with my existing one so I can add a couple of master keys. I found the ECU with no problem (and discovered I need to change...

Can I pull the AC compressor on a 1998 LX 470 without removing the axle?

Has anyone removed and conversely re-stalled an AC compressor without removing the axle? Any help or advice would be appreciated. I'll adjust projects if I have to, but I would prefer to do my CV's and Axles in the fall. Wanted to get the AC going before summer.

    The Adventure Begins

We took the LX on it's first trip post it's new H20 pump and timing belt. She performed flawlessly towing our 16 foot Scamp and a canoe on top over 300 miles safely. This is exactly the platform I've been looking for. It's not overly expensive (compared to other "newer" towing vehicle options)...

    Shop Manual Needed

I realized when I dug into removing the compressor and repairing the AC that the manual I had was only 1 of 3. Of course it is... then I went to Ebay and Amazon to price volume 2 and 3. Then I came back here (I think you guys know what I saw in terms of price). So, does anyone have volume 2 (I...

Might as well fix the AC too!

I just got my LX 470 back from the mechanic today. I started a phase one baseline with a fresh timing belt, h2o pump and heater T's. There is plenty more to do I assure you... but some I will do myself. He encouraged me to take on the brakes and valve cover seals myself. Right after quoting me...

What Next? The 1998 LX 470 Rescue "To Do List"

Thank you to everyone who has offered information and encouragement for a Jeep convert and self proclaimed 100 addict. I've explained in a least one earlier post how I've become recently addicted to my LX and how I determined why to make the truck my adventure platform and tow vehicle. For...

Wanted  93 80 Series Front Bumper Caps Needed

If anyone has a set of front bumper caps that aren't from China or $200 let me know. We have a 93 / 80 we would like to restore with OEM if possible,

    Trim Paint Recommendations and Techniques

I'm considering painting my trim black. I currently have it removed. I've been inspecting the body for rust and doing some other minor body work. I like the idea of a durable spray on liner coating for the trim components and cover a lot of the scuffs...etc.. They are in good shape beat up and I...

    “Un-Sticking” The Transfer Case Lever

I’ve been working through the various corroded components on my rig and found the 4 H N L Lever is “stuck” in the 4 H position. I mentioned this earlier and folks pointed out it probably needs a bit of PB Blast and some force. I’m sure it’s never been engaged - Question - once I let the PB work...

    IT'S NOT A TRUCK, IT'S A DRUG!

First, I want to thank everyone for their amazing help on this new path. Even the jerks that call me out when I ask a stupid question (and I say that with all respect and admiration). Thanks for letting an old Jeep XJ guy fumble is way through this... well there is only one way to say it...

Torsion Adjustment Location and TechStream Issues

Received TechStream this weekend and having issues running on Windows 7. Going to find and old XP laptop this weekend. In the meantime I'm looking for the torsion adjustment bolt. Am I assuming correctly that I will need to remove the skid plate? If not, can someone provide the location? I was...

1998 Lexus LX 470 - Second AC Lines

Can anyone tell me is it common for a second set of AC lines (connected to nothing) to be present in a non-rear AC unit model?

AHC 1998 237,0000 - Where and When to Start?

Good morning group from an icy Kentucky. I'm currently working from home and have a great deal of extra time. So, having recently purchased a 1998 Lexus LX 470 with 237K on it I'm still deep in the throughs of frenzied research and the honeymoon period. The truck is in remarkably great shape...

    New 1998 LX 470 Owner

Greetings - let me start right out the gate by describing why and how I came to realize “This Might Be My Truck” as quickly as possible. My partner and I are avid sailors and own a small Scamp RV. We currently drive a 2006 Jeep Commander 4.7. It’s been a decent truck (though the reason I’m...
