Good morning from SoCal. Long time member (new handle) and haven't been active in awhile.
Before reading on, my problem is to get my 80 drive out of my driveway or at least get it towed out to a repair shop. Car starts. Transmission won't let it reverse or drive with gear changes (R N D) and...
I haven't logged in as Bluto for the longest time and forgot my password and email. Now reporting as "nurse joy". Just dropped in to say "Hello to the SoCal80s stalwarts and members." Been lurking here and there and noticed that its been quiet for awhile. Oh well...
After years at the hands...
First dibs for SC80s:
1. Eagle Rims x4. These were on my 80 when I got it. I have no idea what that putty looking thing on one of the rim is - maybe for balancing? $85 for all four and includes the lug nuts minus 4 (which were wheel locks). No center caps.
Edit -
When I purchased my 80 it...
I'm getting some clicking on the birfs and would like to put some grease in.
What do you guys recommend and what did you use to get it in the fill hole. I won't be in front of the computer all day so the searching will be difficult with an iPhone. Thanks.
Is the size of this steel rim 15x7? What is the backspace? Will the tire store allow 32x11.50R15 tires to be mounted on this rim - BFG, GY, etc recommends a minimum of 8'' rim width - 32s with 15" rims. I don't see alot of 2Gens using these and info is hard to find. Thanks.
I really like the...
I'm coming from a Land Cruiser background. Most and if not all of my noob mechanical skills come IH8MUD - which is a plethora of info and members that are tempered to my liking. :sombrero:
So my 4runner knowledge = 0. So bear with the ignorance.
There is an early 2nd generation 4runner in the...
Not my wife's fault - slowed down and stopped for yellow light before turning left.
Damage to rear lights and associated fender, tupper ware caps damage, and fender flare falling off.
I would love to replace the OEM with aftermarket metal bumper and wondering how I can do that under my...
Looking for suggestions on where to find bolts for the OEM hitch receiver. Prefer somewhere I can walk in locally but online is ok too.
What kind of bolts/washers/relevent info should I take into account when installing this on the rear?
Thanks in advance.
Heart Attack Hill that is.
Just found this video posted at another forum. Interesting to note that, well - the people in the beginning of the video look older than the stereotypical offroader.
Kudos though.

Just popped in the rear brake pads and I'm putting back the rear caliper.
How much torque should I apply for the two rear caliper mounting bolts?
Thanks.
I had the radiator (cracked) replaced months ago with an aftermarket 3 rows metal. But had OEM hoses and belts put in. Prior to the relacement, I had OEM rad with the original hoses and aftermarket belts (Gates). Only thing not replaced was the thermostat (never had an overheating problem). I...
Smitty, you posted that you have done some changes to the 80. Im curious how it looks now since youve changd the rims and upped to 315s! Its been what...a year or two since you started camping in Atlanta?
Post some pics man!
Using the Grapevine (I5)/or Big Bear as a reference.
How much of a Dog is the FZJ80 with 315s and stock gearing? Please include how you dealt with the underperformance while waiting to regear.
Thanks.
Described as having 10% tread left. This is worth $35? To be used as a spare - Ill probably go further with the flat tire than use this.
Its like paying the seller to pick up his garbage. Shhsssh.
And if I squint hard enough I can see rust on the steel belts.
I dont remember if its here in one of the SC80s threads or somewhere else in MUD. I remember somebody (possibly Boyd) photochoping his dog in every pic he posted (from one of his offroad trips) - cracked me up then and now thinking about it.
Im at work right now so I cant repost a dog pic...
