Anybody planning a trip to Death Valley before winter or end of the year? Just curious.

Hey Allen,
I am trying to put together a trip for Nov 17th - 20th or 21st. The route has not been finalized but I am looking at either Eureka Dunes thru Steele pass to Saline Valley or start in Rhyolite thru Titus canyon to the Racetrack to Saline.

There are a couple other SoCal 80's who have expressed interest so maybe we can all put a good trip together for these dates.

Pm me if you are interested.

Dan

Dan, that's great.

I was planning on going solo and had late October in mind. Discussed with Dave the safety of going at it by myself at the Meet and Greet campfire and he said it was feasible with good preparation.

By hey, if some SoCal 80s peeps are going November I am up for it. The dates you posted sound good. If there are any changes give me a heads up.

Alan

Any open slots on the trip? Would love to go if I can...

Dan, I've yet to ask Dave about Steele Pass but it does look doable with our trailer. Although the Titus Canyon route into the park would be very cool... and less of a worry with a trailer. Plus, we've wanted to see it since the last time we were there. I'm open for either.

Does anyone know if the "steps" and "narrows" in Steele Pass are one in the same?

We've done DV the entire Thanksgiving week for about 10 years now. 9 days "on the trail". We've flown solo many times. As said, preparation is key.

This year we're planning on the east side again, matching a trip we did a few years back. We stopped heading north at Goldfield last time, this year I think we're gonna keep going and see what we can see

Should be no problem for you to go. We are limited to 6 vehicles and 15 people per park regulations and right now I show 5 vehicles interested including you Sean.

Here is the short list I have of people interested in this trip.

Steele pass should be fine both ways with a small off road trailer. Just make sure you have at least one locker and choose your lines wisely. Here's our report from when we passed through there..

Titus is easy breezy and beautiful. Problem is, you have to enter from the Nevada side near Rhyolite. Definitely worth the extra miles though as it's spectacular.

The only place i wouldn't pull a trailer in DV would be Echo canyon. Unless you had a high clearance trailer with a short wheel base tow rig. The waterfalls in Titus are about 3-4 feet high and very rocky.

Dave,

Thanks for chiming in. I read your report, great as always. Our trailers' dimensions are very similar, in fact I think they only differ by a few inches if your teardrop has the same dimension listed on the SoCal Teardrop website. Our 80 is fully locked on J springs, 255/85 16s, very similar to your's only I've got a diesel:flipoff2: , but no where near the amount of miles on dirt :frown: Our trailer rides on the same tires. You can see pics on our for sale/not for sale thread.

And I searched for the Titus waterfalls and watched a few youtube videos...I must be missing something, in one of the videos a Ford Escape drove through Titus. Did you mean Dedeckera Canyon "steps?"

That's fine with me. You just gotta ready for a "pack up early each mornin', hit the trail ALL day, set up camp at dark, rinse, repeat" kind of trip. We usually cover somewhere in the 500-700 mile range in 9 days, depending on where we go.
