Engine swap question - SBC350 to a Nissan 350z (4 Viewers)

So this maybe a really stupid question. I bought my 40 with an older beat SBC350. I am gonna have access to a cheap 2012ish Nissan 350z that is beat up on the outside but has a relatively new, low miles, high horsepower motor in it. This would make it basically a everyday driver with a new Nissan motor.

Has anyone done this engine swap?

Is it a really stupid idea?

Any comments good, bad or smarta$$ are welcome.

I doubt that anyone's done it but that doesn't mean that it cant be done. How would you adapt it to the transmission in the 40? Motor mounts can be fabricated. As to whether it's a good idea...well, let's just say that there are many easier swaps available (F, F.5, 2F, 2FE, 3FE, 1FZ-FE, Toyota V8, small block Chevy, big block Chevy, small block Ford, big block Ford, small block Mopar big block Mopar, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, LS, Cummins 4 cylinder diesel, Cummins 6 cylinder diesel, Toyota diesel...) That being said, if you decide to do it, I'll eagerly follow along to see your progress. I imagine that you'll get some less than supportive replies though.

LS engine is a better path , with all the info you need
It will cost more $$ and time for sure with nissan engine , you will be on your own to find solution

Not a datsun person. Get a better sbc 350 and drop it in - that will be the fastest and cheapest way out. A friend hand built his into a 383. Myself, I want a built Corvette 283.

It was just an idea since I can get a cheap car with a newer motor. The car was being built as a drift car, motor and trans in and the original owner then incarcerated, LOL.

Sounds like an LS or newer SBC is the way to go.

I will not know until I have the car in my possession.

I just takes a simple internet search. The #'s are fairly impressive for a v6, but the rpms are likely unattainable in a FJ40.

306hp @ 6800rpm
342-358ft/lbs @ 4800rpm

It sounds like a really expensive experiment. I've done a few V8 conversions in the past. There are predictable expenses like the components, then there are the items that will nickle and dime you to death to make it fit.

in all seriousness, sbc is the way to go - the nissan VQ35DE while a very good powerplant, comes with its own shenanigans and as said by someone, the power figures while impressive are not suitable for a 40 series landcruiser
