Mid 70's parking brake cable length question (1 Viewer)

Hey MUD,

Couldn't find my answer in a search. I screwed up and put in an order for parking cable 46410-60092 which i just realized is listed 03/1976-01/1979. The discontinued 46410-60091 was for 01/1975-03/1976, and mine is a 1/76.

I see alternative purchase options out there from SOR and others, and I might still have time to call and cancel that part of the order because it is in transit from another warehouse to ToyotaPartsDeal, but really my question out of curiosity is what changed after that 15 month timeframe? I assume the difference is cable length? Mine is a 4 speed. Isn't the H42 the same size and shape from 75-84? I know they used the same parking brake drum assembly from 58-80...

I'm guessing what I purchased isn't backwards compatible?

I don't think so, only because SOR shows the same lever & cable retainer for 1/75-1/79?

Well, FWIW I called SOR to see if I needed to add one of theirs to my cart with some other odds and ends. He looked it up and said they're essentially the same cable. Whatever the difference is probably won't even be noticeable. Here's hoping that's the case! I'll follow up this thread if it is because they're currently marked down $30 through ToyotaPartsDeal so OEM can be had for the same cost as aftermarket.

As a follow up, here's the difference between the cable years listed above. The overall length, adjusters, and attachment at the emergency drum backing plate are identical. The earlier version has a "rounded" head with integral cross T, the latter is just T shaped. It looks like it drops right in and fits like the earlier one did, so they appear to be swappable!

01/1975-03/1976 on the left. 03/1976-01/1979 on the right.
