So my 1989 fj62 hasn’t been touched in about a year and i recently started working on it, when running in lower rpms there is a loud knocking sound, as it gets higher the knocking isn’t as frequent but is still somewhat there, i have no idea what it could be.

On the gauge its in between the middle line and L

Could be lots of things. A piece of hose in the ear can help narrow down the area. Hopefully it is something external.

Sounds like a rod knock. Not good get a stehescope or a long screw driver and start trying to narrowing down exactly where it’s coming from .

Might be a pushrod with a broken off or mushroomed cup. When I heard it, it reminded me of my pushrod experience from many moons ago. I agree with above, get a stethoscope or piece of tubing to try and narrow it down. Fan’s not hitting anything?
