Hi, my name is Gage, and I hope to become involved with High Desert Cruisers soon. My wife and 3 kids sometimes like to go off-roading, but the kids don't always like being knocked around on some of the rougher trails. I bought my FJC 3 years ago with the purpose of using it offroad, but it also has to serve as my daily driver. Last year, I made the switch from a 3" Revtek lift to a 6" Fabtek lift because several trails found be lacking a little in the clearance department (i.e., Poughkeepsie Gulch in the San Juans, Charleux Gap and 3 near Tucson, various Puerco obstacles). When my 33" tires wear out, I will replace them with 35" or bigger tires. At that point, I will seek advice to make decisions on tires and gearing upgrades. My last real outing in the FJ was about 3 months ago in Red River near Greenie Point and the Fourth of July Canyon trail. I look forward to meeting and wheeling with other Toyota enthusiasts!

Hopefully, these pics of my FJ uploaded OK.

Looks good - several of us are on the West Side. Hopefully we will see you at the meeting in a couple weeks!

Welcome to the group. You will definitely want to re-gear your diffs with 35's. I re-geared mine after going to 34's and am sure glad I did.

Welcome to our little slice of MUD. :flipoff2: <- take no offense. It's the tradional MUD welcome salute and wave hello. Really, it is.

And get a bike rack. It completes the look. :hillbilly:

Charleux Gap! that and Chiva Falls is where I cut my teeth off road! Charleux was my first ever 4x4 run(and I went by myself, luckily I didn't get very far in).

looks like you've done some good wheeling! you are definitely with a good group here.
You and I conversed over email last week, glad to see you made it over here! bring the family to the next event you can make it to.
Welcome!:flipoff2:

Gage,
You are using defective logic. :D (One 'mud member characterized this as "thinking like a girl" but I won't go that far.... yet.)

You always need bigger tires. If you wait until your next set of bigger tires is worn out you may never get the bigger, bigger tires. There is always someone that needs your too-small tires as bigger tires for their little tires. If you wait until your little tires are worn out you break the chain and life as we know it will end.

I need bigger tires now and my little tires are just right for your next set of bigger tires so the easiest solution is for you to buy a set of 5-37" tires, mount them on my truck, then you can have my 5-35" tires and Mark can have your teeny tiny tires for his truck/mini-van. I am pretty sure this is all covered in the bylaws. :grinpimp:

And :flipoff2: welcome to HDC. Check the thread that discusses our next meeting and make plans to bring your truck and my new 37" tires.

Gage, while it might appear that Mike is messing with you, and kidding around, rest assured he is not kidding and is dead serious.

The only problem I see with this advice is that I want to be the one ending up with the new tires! You just helped me realize that my wife is influencing my thinking a little too much. ;-)

Response to Beowulf; will use Quote function next next time. Learning to do this.

Can't make the November meeting because my family already has me booked to take them to White Sands and Carlsbad Caverns that weekend. What is the next meeting/ event available to attend?

Last run at Charleux Gap happened early this year with my brother-in-law riding shot gun. A few spots of that trail would have been easier with SAS rather than IFS as I got front tires way off the ground a few times. But, it was still awesome. My father-in-law showed me an article in Tucson paper last June that discussed making the Charleux Gap trail a lot easier for more people to travel. I was not happy with the news. I have not played at 3 Feathers/ Chiva Falls since adding the 6" lift. Maybe I can also have bigger tires before going there again. : )

Response to Bionic Cruiser; I'll use quote function next time.

What did you use for new gearing?

The bigger tires on my truck are new. They've never been off-road and have maybe 100 miles on them. They aren't shiny but Mark has some stuff you can rub on them that will make them gleam like a baby's butt.

When do we make the swap?

Gage, don't let Mikie worry you. He is an aquired taste.

he is a whack job, to be honest....

Just say it like it is Ali. Geez, I was trying to be, um, PC, or polite, or um, just semi to the point.

Its good to know who my friends are.

The voices in my head are telling me leave work early and go clean the guns. (Just kiddin' guys... saw this on a bumper sticker. I have no guns, only cross bows that don't need cleaning.)
