I've driven past this 40 for a few years and one day on a furniture delivery, My son and I decided to stop and ask about it. It was definitely off the beaten path but seen from the road. Turns out it lived most of it's life in Vail, Colorado...
We get a lot of these through my shop..
Typical things I always look for right away.
Rear driveshaft joints are out of phase. Usually a good indicator of the rest of the work done. Additionally, the front shackle bushings are the smaller pre-79...
With just a cursory glance, who ever “rebuilt” this truck knows very little about Land Cruisers. First of all there is an extra “body panel” below the drivers running board. That’s not factory. Green leather, not factory. Bed liner on the frame...
I just figured out there's two MORE cupholders in the front, if you lift the upper section of the center console, on the underside of it is a plastic release that folds down a tray with 2 extra cupholders!!
Overall amazing trip with the kids from central Texas to New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado and back!
- Four Corners Monument to Blanding
- Blanding to Manti-La Sal NF
- Elk Ridge Road to Briger Jack Road to Moab
- Rim Rocker Trail in Moab...
Did it all by clamping it and hammering. I did pick up an air tool at harbor freight for the smaller flanges. My amazing daughter modeled it in CAD and a friend at work cut the brackets out for me on a water jet.
An example of my metal working...

I took my 10 year old grandson out with me to run a few chores and then bring him home. It was his first ride in the 40. He was asking a few questions about it that were hard to hear 😉 in the cab noise but one comment he’d made was. “ so...
The factory mechanical fuel pumps are ultra reliable. I would suggest going back to one of those.
We probably have a good use distributor for you. And we stopped new fuel pumps. Happy to help if you need either item or both along with anything...
IT’S ALIVE!
I don’t have any documentary proof, but yesterday I pulled the 40 out of the garage and drove it around the block a couple of times! It ran pretty well, even though I have not fully timed it. The gearbox is very notchy, but...
I’ve been on vacation for the past 10 days or so, so I haven’t been able to work on the Cruiser at all, though I am anxious to get back to the shop to see if my ignition problems are truly solved.
The other day I was able to take a little side...
I'd do, all at same time. Rad, only adds, about 1 hour to T-belt service. Some pull radiator during T-belt anyway, so those have zero add.
The main overlaps. Are upper & lower rad hoses, fan shroud and coolant.
That said; I'd not have much...
Just finished up the install of the Ironman front bumper on my ‘04 LX470. Pretty straight forward install and it definitely upgraded the front end imho. Next up is a winch…
For people looking for answers here- if your timing marks are good all your sensors etc look good- it could be that your crank sensor plate (the brass disc behind the crank pulley) is on backwards.
Its dished outward, and today I had it on wrong...
@KS-Ryan thats awesome you made it home! A true testament to the old 2F and you are also a trooper!
I have yet to see an engine that is blowing exhaust gasses out of the cooling system like your 2F. After we pullout the test kit (engine shut...
This is the beginning of my thread for my 3/1977 FJ40 named “Larry the LandCruiser”. This first post is going to be a bit lengthy as I go into a bit of the background.I’ve included some pictures of my grandfather washing Larry in North Carolina...
