Wins. I'm happy (for now) with the outcome from both experiments.
I will continue fussing with the warning light; I know I need to tone down the LED output just a bit and want to follow the contours of the factory dash facia openings a...
Maybe change the mold design so that it doesn't drop out the other side. Preheat the mold to ensure the alloy doesn't create voids. I think your alloy is cooling too quickly as it's being poured in. Look at old musket ball molds for inspiration...
I'm experimenting. I really don't know what I'm doing but have plenty cable to play with til I find something that seems to work. From what I've seen on the web, everyone recommends packing the mold with flux then stuffing small snipped pieces...
Damn i was hoping it might be worth the hassle to add even a little bit more safey to the 60 haha That was the plan, just pick out the essential parts from the 80 and stash them somewhere in the 60 dash somewhere
Dude if this is elementary...
And, last but not least. I spent all morning knocking out this little doo-dad on a mill.
I made a 1.5mm and 2mm cable diameter mold.
Was hoping the end result would look something like this:
I tested it out with some lead free silver...
I still haven't figured out what the hell I'm going to do with the fan shroud. It's pretty much the last thing left on my engine compartment mock up checklist. Whenever I get completely gridlocked on a specific point, I tend to move on to...
PDI includes some very rudimentary mounting brackets. I decided to make my own. I also opted to add some vibration isolators while I was at it. I got lucky when I picked up some A/C condenser mounting brackets on Amazon. They didn't suit my...
I'm running the whole 80-series harness with the un-needed circuits removed. It would certainly be possible to just remove the ABS system from an 80 and carefully pick out the ABS parts. I kind of don't think the system is worth the hassle...
PLEASE post up your thoughts on the ABS after the install. I have been toying with the idea of installing the 80 series ABS into my 60 as well and youre the first person ive seen do it. Are you able to run it standalone with just the ABS Computer?
Ok, minor update time.
I've pretty much finished mock up of the intercooler. This is the third PDI intercooler I've bought for a Landcruiser and it will be the last. I would've been money ahead had I just bought a core, some end tanks and a...
I know I know... I'm waffling on it too. But I've already done most of the work to install it. ...but I hear the first Gen ABS is pretty awful even when fully functional. ...I flip flop on this like every other day.
The poor 60's kick panels were never intended to house the computers for ABS, transmission, light retainer, and the number of relays I've stuck to this panel. But I think there is a solution. I will relieve the inner skin to allow the harness...
The only slightly tricky part to this process was changing from the 80-series 30A FLs for the heater and power circuits. The 80 uses male spade terminals while the 60 uses female terminals with the 30A circuit breakers. Luckily, I had a...
Luckily the 60 has only one large fuse box rather than the 80's smaller dash panel with circuits split between two boxes. So, it was just a matter of making sure everything could be migrated to a 60-series box. Easy day. I will make a spit...
MOAR WIRING F.U.N.
Someone thought it'd be a good idea to use a complete(ish) 80-series harness on this truck.
But the stinkin' fuse panel just won't fit neatly behind the dash.
Fail.
....hmmmmmmmmmmm....
More progress. I re-clocked the turbo compressor to point directly at the intercooler.
Similarly, the water inlet pipe was cut and turned to more appropriately point towards the radiator outlet.
The fan shroud looks like it's going to be a...
Hey @lelandEOD, In the beginning I was thinking about sourcing a HDJ100 from south/central America or Western Europe, France/Spain area for a complete manual truck, but those would be LHD, more expensive, and often seemed absolutely flogged...
I did us 3m tape first. The sheen was not as consistent compared to the other cluster components. I pulled it off and used the wrap. The wrap is a better hack than the tape in my opinion.
