Kevin -
Here I am, cruising along, thinking that my truck is almost done and then you post this bit of Cruiser Porn. Yer a sick bastid. So what does that make me?

"Hi, my name is Ward and I have a problem..."

Price, my Brutha, price! (also timing, so I can make up a story for my wife)

PS price and value are two different things. Value is the one that matters.

Need these for the 80's before you start making them for the 100's? It only makes sense :flipoff2:
I want to be on the list for the windows for the 80's!
Well, it makes sense numerically anyway.....
And I will have the 80 for prototyping before I have the 100 anyway.
(step it up 100 guys)

I think the 100 guys have you beat on this one. We are willing to spend the $$$ that this ridiculous project is going to end up costing. After us please proceed to the 200 folks whilst doubling the cost. Please go back to your duct tape and bailing wire using group of IFS hatting Luddites . :flipoff2:
Well, you are certainly all gear magnets who spent too much on their trucks, but I thought that left you without any change left over for mods? :p
And, ummmmm, you know I'm a 60 guy, right? Duct tape, baling wire AND leaf springs, forget about even coils.
The only downside with the 100s is the lack of the rear marker light that gives me a great spot to mount the exterior control, have to figure that one out (would hate to have to only offer it as remote controlled if I can help it)
Other than that the 100s are easier than the 80s
Nice to meet you this weekend Jon!

Big problem with doing 80 split windows will be getting a one-piece section of glass to built the frame on. The 60 and the 100 have a solid rear window which can be easily modified.:meh:
Yup, and that has been the hold up with working on the 80, makes the frame more difficult, when I checked the non-us solid glass was too cost prohibitive but I met some nice folks at the Expo this weekend who thought they might be able to find a better rate.
If that is the case, consider the 80s basically done (as done as the 60s anyway).

Done? Done is never done Ward.
Come on up so I can put some new plastic in that bent tailgate of yours and I'll put some windows in as well. :p
As for price, I still have no idea.
I don't have prices on any of the hardware yet, it's all prototype stuff still so that is going to make a huge difference.
I've been working hard on simplifying the whole thing though, the side effect is less parts, less cost. (but then again I spent way more time so maybe I should actually try to pay myself for that for a change.....)

It's probably going to come back and bite me, but I THINK the range is going to be 600-800 for the set. I THINK.
And I'm not holding my cards close on this or anything. I really have no idea, I need to do an actual set from start to finish to add up what the steel costs, the laser cutting, the hardware, the powder coating, the shipping, and how long it actually takes me to build.

So seriously, no clue, but heck, it's my forum, I can go back and edit that post.

Well Kevin, I will say this. My Great Dane has not been gentle on the tailgate you built me and it looks new, plus, people absolutely love it.

When these go to production, knowing your quality, I will pay that $6-800 for the setup. That is not much more than sliding windows which hold far less value to a guy like me who still has ice cold A/C in his FJ62.

More nice stuff to buy,i guess it's time for a part time job for this addiction.LOL
Keep up the good work man we love your work.

I am amazed at how incredible those side windows work. I would be very interested in them. I have replacement sliders on my 60, but I am certain these would be much better. I have a question, is the window removable? Could one take the windows right off and drive without them? Cause that would make me send money immediately!! J
BTW I just sent you an email Kevin, would like to drop by for a visit and looksee!

Yeah..... that's not going to happen.
The prices are rolling in for everything now, it is ridiculous.
I'll be posting the details of the parts to show everyone a breakdown, there is not any one thing that is crazy but even though I have worked hard for 3 years to simplify the design there are still a lot of parts and boy oh boy do they add up quick.

Thanks viper, I need to get a part time job to be able to afford to keep making the stuff.

Thanks pilot, stop on by and see the prototypes (I'll show you the parts list as well. :crybaby:)
As for the windows, once they are unlocked and open you can remove them with no tools in a matter of seconds. You would then have to stow the window glass somewhere though so that would be annoying, and all the parts would still be captive except for two little washers per side, and those little washers are spacers and are not a common size so to get more when you loose them would cost $4.24 each (since you would have to buy the whole stainless hinge).

So I just stumbled upon this thread and everything else that you make Kevin and it looks so amazing! I really need to start saving up for these windows especially! I'd like to get everything you offer for 60's at some point though!

Cheers!

"Final"
As in no changes more than .60" or so, little touches here and there.
I have my production hardware here.

The hardware components I have to fabricate are all in spec and working well:

These have the final powder coat finish and the clearances and adjustments are working right.

I installed the drivers side window with clear glass so I could show how they would look without tint (much better with tint, but some folks don't like tinted windows {you should tint them})

Really just a double check left at this point, I've got the other side ready to go to the powder coater in the morning, then I need to break down and post up all the pricing info so that you all can hold your bellies and point and laugh at me. :crybaby:

I know they will be expensive, but they look really really good!!!

:cool:They look so good! Good luck with the engine, I sure hope locating the parts isn't too hard. Jon

Have you ever seen European casement windows? Crazy mechanism, but with the turn of a handle you can tilt them or swing them open.
I like the utility of the swing up for access, but like the swing out at the tail (100's) for road venting.
So when you are bored with this latest round of perfection......

Looking forward to seeing the final product.....for the 100 :D

It's never enough for you guys. :p

Well I no longer have a 60, and I don't have a 100, so all I can do is dream. Maybe you can adapt a 60 setup for the 40 then my problem is solved. I have the kick vent windows already, so tip up sides would be sweet! I would have to lose the jump seats, but I never use them anyway.

Oh, and since 40 glass isn't curved, you could actually have it drilled for latches prior to tempering. :)

Closer still

Yeah these are becoming a reality, soon to be in SC I hope I hope I hope. :) They are going to make reaching in to get my rifle soooooooo much easier.:clap::clap:
