h55 transmission about 8 years old and under 15k miles on it and 1987 split transfer case
It was painted about 10 years ago. Color is sandstorm(same as 2008 FJ cruisers
front disk brakes and drums in the rear. Rear axle is from a 1984 fj60
Rear spring were reversed.
rear wheel wells were cut and I did not get it painted again.

I intended to keep it, so I put quite a bit into it to both baseline it and add a few key upgrades (power steering, front discs, etc. - see below). I recently picked up an FJ43 to have a bit more room for the family, so this one needs to move out before my wife makes me move out 😂

Howdy y'all. Life has thrown some S balls my way so I am posting up my 1971 FJ40 for sale to see if anyone wants to finish my project there way. I've spent about a year stripping the interior of bedliner.. taking off the diamond plate rear quarter panel and finding a bunch of bondo..stripping all the bondo. Welding tons of holes. Cut out a couple cancer spots and welded in new sheet metal. Been taking my time not rushing things but now my time is running out 🙃

This is a very capable off road Toyota FJ40 that is ready for overlanding and rock crawling. I built this rig with the intention of driving to the Rubicon Trail, wheeling the trail, and driving back home. There is rust in the back quarter panels that these FJ40's are known to have. There are different ways to fix the issue and I decided the new owner should know about the rust, and they decide the best way for them. If it were me I would install Bud Built rear quarter guards after cutting out the rust. Here is a list of everything that has been done to this rig.

Model year not important. The 40 that I am looking for has a wide range, from a rock crawler that is "done" to just a good candidate to be built into a crawler or something in between.
When complete this will likely see very little to no road use and it would be trailered. I am trying to minimize the compromises when expecting a vehicle to do both well.
This could be about any year of 40 and could have an original motor or a sbc or anything that has parts availability. Prefer a decent running vehicle. SBC with a sm420 or sm465 is nice, as to avoid the need for dual TC's.
I am not overly concerned with body condition but I don't want a complete rust bucket. Price is all relative just like buying any used vehicle.

1977 FJ40 all smog equipment there and in tact, runs great but I didn’t take it for a drive. I told him the diamond plate is likely the biggest detractor and I’d pull it off (supposed to be same paint underneath). Doesn’t leak, dirty from driving northern Montana roads but the front and rear floors look pretty clean (no rust). Couldn’t tell about rear sill or in the corners. I am in the hunt for my first FJ40 with a budget of around $20,000. I am in the Cincinnati area but am will to travel for the right truck.

I bought this to restore, but can’t find the time right now to work on it. The good: pretty much 100% complete, low actual miles from living its life in an island. Clean Washington title, comes with extra tub that can be used to replace rusted out sections other than the rockers and rear sill which are also rusty on the extra tub. The bad: not currently running, sat for 20 years per the PO. Significant rust in some places. Floor pans are gone, rear sill is gone, Not really sure what is a fair asking price for everything so accepting offers, I’d rather sell to someone on Mud than the masses.

Hello! I had posted here previously, but my quest for the right truck has expanded a bit so I've decided to delete the old post and recreate it here.
I live in Santa Monica, CA and am searching for a strong running FJ40 ideally in the Southern California region or on the west coast in general. For the perfect truck I'm willing to travel and/or ship from further out, but would probably want to make arrangements to come see it first.
After driving a few different configurations I've determined that I'm pretty flexible on the year and spec I'd consider, but do have a fairly specific idea of what kind of conditioned truck I want.
