craigslist 79 BJ40 Been on CL for a while, interested in what people think

I'm in Seattle and have been looking at cruisers for about a year now, this one has peaked my interest. My jumping in budget is roughly 15K so this one could fit. Its been on CL for a while, price has recently been reduced. I'm going to get really serious after I take a professional exam in April, but like I said this one has peaked my interest. Hey gang, it's been a long while since I've graced these pages, hopefully I can have a little more time for this branch of my family for a while. 1978 fj 40. I purchased it thinking I would swap the axles to my 74 40. The 40 came from Globe AZ. The owner told me that Dave from 4 plus did all the work on it. After I got it I decided I would build it up possibly for a everyday driver. So I started going that route and purchased a donor truck for the running gear. It was a 92 suburban with a 5.7 TBI and 4L60. It had 150,000 miles on it. I drove it for about a month to make sure the engine was good then pulled it out. Had the transmission rebuilt and AA adapter put on it with a new flywheel and torque converter. Also went thru the engine and had new bearings, valve seals, oil pump, water pump, valve seals put in. Wanted FJ40 FST: clean, doesn't need to run

Looking for a clean FJ40 FST. Preferably a western truck with minimal rust, original paint and uncut. As this truck will be getting a later 2F it doesn't need to run nor have a motor/trans in it. That said rolling nicely would save a lot of hassle. The axles will be gone through and brakes upgraded but having something nice to start with would be cool. I'm sure someone has the perfect one sitting in their barn just waiting to be brought back to life...lol Thanks!:beer:

1976 Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser (FJ Land Cruiser) This is a '76 without a top or doors. It does come with the bikini top and some rear barn doors that I was planning on welding into a tailgate. The suspension is stock springs with longer shackles. Stock wheels with BFG 33x10.5R15 tires with lots of tread left. All the lights work including the gauge cluster. All the gauge dials work and the dash is uncut and 100% intact. Turn signals work as do the wipers. The truck has unique stock options like the rear heater, oil cooler, and carburetor cooling fan. The drive train is all stock except the Holly carb which has a very poor cold weather tune. It takes lots of gas pedal work for a couple miles until it has warmed up. All the badging is on...

Howdy, long time lurker on the site. It's a great site. I sold my 76 Bronco (my baby) 5 years ago and I cuss myself daily for doing so. Winters are long here in WY and I need a project to work on. I've never had an FJ40 and I'm looking to purchase one in the near future. Many friends have them and I've been impressed. I'd be willing to spend up to 10k. I'm in no rush whatsoever. I do not plan to restore and sell but rather I want a rig I can work on and keep forever. This will not be used for hardcore rock crawling. . . I plan to use it mostly for getting me to places to hunt and fish. So it will spend quite a bit of time on dirt. I don't know much about the FJ40's but I'm looking to rolling up my sleeves and diving in. Any advice...

We just finished this '78 and she sure is nice. She is a born and raised, dry Wyoming truck. She has sat for the last 10+ years as the clutch went out and never got fixed. With a little time, money and patience she has grown to be quite the eye catcher. Here's what was done. Original paint had a 3 stage 3M cut and polish Rear sill rust was cut and replaced Rear quater rust on both sides was cut out and replaced and blended New- front seat upholstery, headliner, OEM dash pad, door weatherstripping, mirrors, bumper, bumperettes, antenna, clutch and hood pads.
