I wanted to offer something more affordable as most of my trucks have been either 1980 and above FJ40s or FJ43s. The benefit is it makes them more rare in the US market but also leads to higher prices.

After purchasing over 10 trucks I learned that condition trumps model year and options. One of my best trucks was a 1974 FJ43 in gray with F engine and 3 speed and manual steering.

This 1977 FJ40 here I believe is a similar truck and rather than put big tires on it and a soft top and correct vinyl interior and push the retail price to $30,000 I decided to offer it this way.

Truck is listed here on hemmings.com for $23900 FIRM but I would love to sell a truck to MUD member as I have not done so yet.

This truck has...

1. Very nice uncut body with good lines and CLEAN floors and shiny black chassis
2. original 3 speed manual (Colombian spec 1976 and 1977 sometimes came with 3 speeds)
3. 7 passenger layout no roll bar
4. new cloth interior (we can put black vinyl if you wish)
5. high quality Colombian made fiberglass hard top
6. 4 drum brakes no heat no air (there is a $600 or so kit in Largo, FL)
7. we will inspect the hubs and brakes and review the truck as we do with all our trucks
8. clean Florida title with delivery in Tampa, FL. we can assist with shipping.
9. Power steering was later added using Toyota parts
10. tires are 245/75/16 michelin nearly new on 16 inch split rims

I can add 4 speed, bigger tires, black interior, custom tan soft top too just costs a bit of time and some money as an option. This is a great truck to enjoy as it is.

All Volcan 4x4 trucks get essentially the same mechanical review. All the brakes are checked. Usually 5 new tires and new shocks. Carbs are adjusted. I drive them personally in Colombia and then later in Florida. The overhauls are usually 1 to 6 months. These are 30 to 50 year old trucks and they hide issues. This particular truck will have most of the mechanical work all done March 2015 meaning very recently and not done in stages over time.

Paperwork cleared on this one so it should be outbound soon to Florida. Here are some photos of what the truck looks like. We reinvested into it and upgraded it further. It still gets some detail work done to it. In the end this is about a 30 day intensive overhaul. Published asking price is now $26,900.

Fiberglass top. All new glass and weatherstripping. paint matched. the rear quarter windows are plastic as are all fiberglass tops. these tops have really grown on me now and I really like them. Has 6.5 inch speakers in the roof. plus little vents up front.

Rear inside of the truck. So the only downsides to this truck to me are the Dodge PS (works fine), the 3 speed (somewhat slow shifting but you can get used to them and 3rd top gear is same ratio as 4th top gear), and.. the bodywork and paint quality are generally very good.. new shiny bolts and clean floors but there are the false dimples along the sides rear, a few small waves in the doors and the passenger fender is misaligned if you really look closely.

How much extra would you charge to install a US spec roll bar? Also upgrade to 4spd cost? Thanks

Sorry already imported the truck and have it here for sale in Tampa (asking $26900 now but will honor the posted price here). The US spec roll bars won't fit the longer rear benches but we can do a custom roll hoop or a full (half) roll bar going to the rear section. Have done it before and turns out great. I am better to source you a truck with a 2F and a 4 speed. I decided to leave the 3 speed. Ended up putting a lot of money and upgrades into the truck and it turned out nicely. The 3 speeds are clunky and they do have some more gear whine to them at speed. This truck is a strong runner and she goes 55 to 60 mph and steers straight. The PS works out nicely. The older restored white rims were able to balanced with no issues. I really like the paint matched fiberglass tops now. they might not be quite as pretty as the metal tops but this one has all new glass and works well. Truck has a few minor issues but overall turned out great. I bought the truck based on condition and not so much model year and model (FJ40 vs FJ43) and it turned out as I had hoped. Truck did spend a week with the Tampa mechanic and got some things fixed and new battery and Pioneer radio.

Little Red Ruby....

Truck is SHINY and has a good shade of red. Closer to the original Tomato/Freeborn with a tiny touch of candy apple in it. Shows well.

Ruby on the beach in Florida. We will be posting professional photos of the truck on my website and facebook. All the trucks get a name and have a photo shoot at the end of the restoration. This truck was a challenge to keep the price in the mid $20,000s. It is a nearly 40 year old truck and they really are never quite finished. There is always something that can be changed or addressed but I think this is a pretty complete truck. This is our 12th truck so far.
