I know that so many talk about this..
But I hve seen nothing that is CLEAR..
One thing that one HAS OR DOESN"T have..

Mine seems to have some features of the 3BII and the 3B also??????????

Thanks
Todd

Rotary pump doesn't necessarily mean its a 3BII.

Some JDM 3B's have the rotary pump but are regular 3Bs in most other ways.

A true 3BII has the rotary pump and a neat Y-shaped exhaust manifold instead of the caterpillar-shaped thing on a 3B.

yes, the exhaust manifold is one of the easiest tell tale signs of a 3B II.
i have a rotory on my 87 3B so that isn't a for sure sign.

Ok.. so I have a 3B.. with the long exhaust manifold that dumps out the back..

Can someone define "JDM" .. I see it on the forums.. but I do not know what it is..

Thanks a ton guys-

Japanese Domestic Market... basically just trucks that were original sold/manufactured for the Japanese market.

Ah.. so mine is for sure a JDM.. as I bought it out of a running 61 model GX straight out of Japan..

Slowly the smoke is clearing.. and I am learning what I have..

Do both the 3B and 3BII have just "3B" here on the casting (where mine has "B")?:

(Maybe Toyota made it easy for us by identifying the block casting as "3BII")

WHAT!? A BJ61? Can't be.

Sure is :hillbilly: The JDM's were called BJ60 from 1980/08 until 1982/10 and BJ61 from 1982/10 until 1986/08 when the 3B powered 60 was dropped from the Japanese market. The switch from inline to rotary injection pump happened in 1982/10 - i dont know if this was the reason for the swtich from 60 to 61 though.

Out of interest, the BJ60 carried on production for the 'General market' until 1990/01. So like the BJ70/73 and 75, the post 1988/08 BJ60 came from the factory with the 3BII.

It looks like it Tom. This is the only picture i have of a 3BII, you can just make out the cast 3B behind the dipstick tube. Note the timing case mounted vacuum pump under the injection pump, which is another 3BII spotting feature.

And heres the difference between the 8 stud 3B and ten stud 3BII exhaust manifold bolt pattern.

A very informative/useful reply as usual :)

For real-
That is the most informative 3B identification post I have read.. and I read all of them I think..
What made this great: To see the exhaust gasket and see the Vacuum Pump -
Thanks guys-

Here is the truck I got he engine out of.. just in case in those photos you guys saw anything special that grabbed your attention-

I'm shocked. Really. The information and depth of subtle knowledge of even just the 60 series is astounding. Ok, so let me recap, and correct me where I go wrong:

FJ60
HJ60
BJ60
HJ61
BJ61
FJ62

No:
BJ62
HJ62

But:
FJ61 ?

I wish somebody would take this data,
thu: Land Cruiser J6 - Technical Specifications
correct the few errors and add the entire known productions history for the J6. All markets, all factory configurations and major dealer options like ambi doors, high roof, cable lockers, all seating configurations, rear a/c, sunroof, etc. Actually, I'd like to see a Landcruiser Encyclopedia, with all known information in one place. This forum is probably the closest thing so far.

An actual print book, not just a coffee table picture deal, with all this info would be a nice seller. I'd pay good money for it...

Edit: He got much closer than I thought, and lists an FJ61 as well...
http://www.ulich.org/~thu/LC/tech/history.html

But no BJ62 or HJ62...

He doesn't list the engine, but it had a 2F. All of this information is collected in the EPC, which is the definitive source you're looking for. For the FJ61 it hints that FJ61's were available as CBU's (completely built units) or as IV4's which is the Toyota code for a firetruck. So if no one has ever seen a FJ61 then they should try looking at firetrucks, as perhaps only that body was actually sold.

Forgive my ignorance, what is the EPC?

Electronic parts...something. Basically a web based parts diagram listing with part numbers ect. Check the sticky at the top of the 70 section. Probably don't ask too many questions about them, especially if your in the US, they can get taken down if toyota gets wind of them. The first(?) good one got all the pics removed because of this
