Rebuilding my 93 birfs and rear bearings also. ive researched all the forums and the vendor sponsors, whos got the best prices on complete kits with shims and all the "trimmings". Also, we have a local bearing distributor in town who has EVERYTHING. So basically I want to get the kit for the rebuild minus the bearings. If anyone knows the required timken bearing part #s for front and rear that would be great. otherwise i will just take over the oldies. thanks to all with all your expertise. i appreciate it. i dont mean to reinvent the wheel, but sometimes you spend hours searching the forum and end up with too much info.

I wouldn't worry who has the best prices. I recommend you go with Toyota OEM parts. For OEM Cruiser parts, I would recommend contacting cruiserdan, parts manager at American Toyota. Contact information in the vendors section.

Yoyu can buy cheap, but do you want to have to go back in there in a few months due to a crappy gasket?

I would also recommend you look at replacing the front Rotors while you are in there.

I learned my lesson! Thought I would save a few bucks and ordered a kit from a reputable vendor. Everything was fine except the axle seals - they wouldn't fit despite all manor of attempts, including freezing them! I ended up getting them from a dealership I didn't normally deal with on a Saturday afternoon - mine was closed. Bottom line it ended up wasting half a day, $20 in parts and at least $20 in gas. Just order from Dan and be done with it.

I second that, talking to Dan is like getting catalogued and summarized info from this entire forum. The scary part is when you start reading off an inconsequential part number and he finishes it off for you...

CDan for the best possible price on OEM parts kit. Don't even think about going to your home town dealer. The normal Toyota front axle kit doesn't include the inner axle seal...

Also don't even waste your time looking aftermarket for this kit.

The front and rear wheel bearings are the same. So you will need a set of 4 inner and 4 outter bearings. Toyota stocks both the Japan Koyo and US Timken. Your local Auto Zone will stock the Timkens, outter is SET47 and the inner is JLM104948 and the inner race is JLM104910. This will save you more than a few dollars vs buying from CDAN with the 20% knock off.

The steering knuckle bearings, aka trunion bearings will not match a Timken # but either way you should NOT use anything other than the Koyo set, PERIOD. My '97 with only 80k miles had a broken roller on the lower drivers side trunion but my sister's '95 with 205k miles and it's first birfield job had no broken trunions...go figure.

I just rebuilt the birfields and rear wheel bearings on my sister's and it took 6hrs for the rear and about 18hrs for the front, total of 3 days. cheers buddy!

add- And get the wiper kit, axle seals FR&RR, wheel seals FR&RR, trunion bearings all from CDAN, you will save a ton over the normal dealer list price.

I'll just throw in the part numbers for the kit and seals since I put those TImken numbers up. Price is a very close estimate to full Toyota List and not to speak for crusierdan but figure about 20% off if you order with him.

FR Axle Wiper Kit (Includes: spindle gasket, dust cover gasket, hub gasket) -- 04434-60051 $210 (need 1)
FR Axle Seal -- 90310-35010 $4 each (need 2)
FR Wheel Seal -- 90311-62001 $15 each (need 2)
FR Steering Knuckle Bearing(Koyo) -- 90366-20003 $23 each (need 4)
Brass Spindle Bushing -- 90381-33001 $64 each (need 2 - questionable)

RR Axle Seal -- 90310-35001 $3 each (need 2)
RR Wheel Seal -- 90311-62002 $18 each (need 2)
RR Axle Hub Gasket -- 43422-60040 $2 each (need 2)

Now for the wheel bearing price comparison:
Koyo Inner -- 90368-49084 $36 each
Timken Inner (Toyota) -- 90080-36064 $35 each
Timken Inner (AutoZone) -- JLM104949 $8.99 each
Timken Inner Race (AutoZone) -- JLM104910 $4.99 each ($13.98 total)
Koyo Outter -- 90368-45087 $30 each
Timken Outter (Toyota) -- 90080-36067 $29 each
TImken Outter (AutoZone) -- SET47 $10.99 each

add - This is for '95-'97 but should apply to '93-'94 full float rear.

It's cheaper (by quite a bit) to part-out the 04434-60051 kit. The loose pieces add up to less than the kit price.

43422-60060 x2
43204-60031 x2
43435-60020 x2
43436-60011 x2
90313-93003 x2

Not to take anything away from Dan, if you looking to save a few bucks. I like Kurt at Cruiseroutfitters knuckle rebuild kits, nice, complete kits and also a good guy to deal with.

The simplest, easiest way to ensure that you have the parts you need is to call CDan and order them with the ih8mud discount. I wish I had sourced through him instead of through our local dealer, whose discount was not as generous as CDan's, and whose knowledge of cruiser parts was not as thorough and intimate as CDan's. I could have saved a couple of trips to the parts counter, and had the UPS guy deliver it all in one fell swoop.

All hail the parts shaman.

I have not ordered parts from the cruiseroutfitters mentioned above, so I can't speak to their services, although their prices could save you few bucks in procurement cost, and others on this forum have spoken glowingly of their service. I was in a time crunch and the most reliable and efficient method for me was to call CDan, because he seems to have all the important 'Cruiser part numbers memorized. No kidding.

So I am new to this site and need to service my front axle on my 91 landcruiser. How can I contact cruiser dan?

Can Am Cruisers has a nice kit...They might have a dealer in your neck of the woods...

They even include new retainer rings anodized, I always use the MARLIN inner axle seal, its quite beefy and very flexy...

Rob

I'm usually a stickler for OEM parts, but the components in the Cruiseroutfitters kits are good quality and work just fine. The only exception is that none of the aftermarket inner axle seals have as flexible of a sealing surface as the Toyota seals. I like to use Toyota inner axle seals with the rest of the Cruiseroutfitters kit. Wheel bearings aren't normally a PM replacement item. If do you need a wheel bearing, Timkens are the same from Autozone as they are from Toyota.

If you plan on keeping you truck more than a couple years, consider only the toyota part. The 80 will be faithful to you if you are faithful to it. Kind of like a :princess:!

Go with Kurt at cruiseroutfitters or Georg at valley hybrids if you want to get everything you order.
