Expression of interest SUSPENSION STUFF FLEXI COILS

My first thread Ive started myself :).

Just trying to gauge interest from your side of the globe about sending a shipment of flexi coils to the USA.

Flexi coils are a progressive coils. The spring rate is what ever you need it to be (1 spring suits all). The math has already been done and all you need to decide on is how much lift you want for how much weight you have. The windes in the steel are spaced further apart. It starts off thick gauge and gets thinner, the last few winds are very thin.

This means the more wieght you add the stiffer they become as they compress with the weight. It also means uncompressed they are much longer than a standard coil. Which is perfect for people wanting to run long shocks while the coil spring still remains captured between its mounts and doesnt fall away. The ride is very very good.

- When your unloaded with not much weight, The spring is softer giving a great ride.

- When your loaded with weight, The spring is stiffer but more weight makes the coil more active in bumps. Meaning its the best allround coil. And I dont know how you guys survive without them :D. I havent worked out linear spring rates in a long time. Just have to decided if I wanted normal duty flexi coils, or plain flexi coils and what lift height.

Note... The blue coil in the picture is standard, the others are flexi coils.

Prices are all here...

Landcruiser 80 Series, Suspension Stuff

Just depends on how many people want these, to warrant a container load. Which will make shipping alot cheaper. And maybe a reputable 4x4 suspension business to step forward to receive and reship/supply the US market.

I suppose I'd be interested in a set if you can get the shipping down a bunch with a big order. I looked before and it was going to be about $900 to get a set of 4 springs over here. Was a bit more then I'm willing to do.

Let us know some more info, do you work for Suspension Stuff?, what kind of quantity would it take to equal what kind of shipping cost? Who would you be using for shipping?

I dont work for suspension stuff. Im a independant 4x4 enthusiast. And give alot of feedback to suspesion stuff in regards to their gear. There a very few companies who do the flexi coil designs. And I get asked about them from alot of guys in the states. They are what most of you guys are looking for. Shane is the man in charge of suspension stuff. Im just stepping in and hooking you guys up :). It is between shane and yourself, I dont benefit in any way. This end is covered... Just need to find the link your side now.

It will be under a tonne at a time with shipping (thats about 18 full sets of coils. And should be well under $900 a set. He will try and get them as cheap as possible. Currently looking at qoutes.

If you can organise a group buy for guys in your location. Im sure he can give you a rock solid qoute.

There are a few testing issues though. So a few sets will be shipped over to get results and feed back, before main shipping starts. As we are right hand drive here. The 1 drivers weight gets couteracted by the fuel tank. Left hand drive, the drivers weight is on the same side. So have to dial in correct spring length and weight to keep all corners level.

I'll be capable of posting actual measurements and details, in a week or two, for the 4" coils. Waiting on a delivery to a mate in Australia, whose shipping to me.

Specs
Front coil free length 24.4094" (620mm)

Rear Coil Free length 23.0314" (585mm)

Hopefully Mark, or anyone, can shed some light on shocks, but based on my limited knowledge, and all I can ascertain with the 4" coils, I'm working with these numbers:

Front
29.9212" extended (760mm)
18.1102" compressed (460mm)
Base of pin to base of pin

Rear
29.1338" extended (740mm)
17.3238" compressed (440mm)
Base of pin to center of eye

I've not ordered, for lack of definitive criteria. Was hoping to get an order going, to minimize build time, but appears I'll be cycling to determine.

Hey Chris. It's all subject to weight. We don't work it out like that here. We basically go off the ride/lift height first and formost. It will have a little more compression and a lot more extension than a standard coil. Shocks are something you buy last after suspension and tyres. With a stock front end you won't come close to using the full stroke of the suspension @ 4". So it's really the rear you need to get right. What tyre size are you going to run?

That's the general consensus, but was hoping to minimize downtime by using input from Superior and Shane, but it ain't going to happen, and based on recent emails with Glenn at Radflo, going to do exactly that. Put it in, set the bumps, and order from there.

All the up travel in the world is irrelevant, if tires won't allow.

Glenn pointed out that the shock specs I provided him (same as above) are longer than a TJM 7" lift (I realize irrelevant) but enough cause for concern to wait.....more.

I'm sort of familiar with "flexi" coils and the odd travel/shock body criteria from the rear end of the FJC. I have Metal Tech rear coils that stay in the bucket, only the rear links/shocks (debatable) to limit full droop. From ride height, the shock is only capable of 4" up, total 11" travel.

Why I bring up is, I think they'd almost work for the rear end of the 80. They're 28.5" extended, 11.5" compressed (bottom of pin to center of eye). If all's perfect in a perfect world, would allow for a 5" up/6" down.

If I'm completely baffled by, will bolt them in and see what can be improved.

No one will tell you what shocks to buy. Just give you an idea and guide. Doing it last is the correct way to do it. But the coils will certainly not be the restricting factor. My rear has a lot more tuck that I have restricted via bump stop to eliminate binding (35's). Using 12" shocks the 5" coils still remain captured at full suspension cycle. I doubt you'd ever need more travel than that.

How ever if tyre size drops to 33's. That extra compression in the 5" flexi is used. This changes your shock compression length by about 2". Which also changes the shocks open measurement reducing down travel. The best you can hope for with stock shock mounting locations. Is to get the correct compression length shocks and use its full stroke.

Got some prices for you.

If 5 people want a set then the cost will be $800 for set of 4.
10 People, $700
15 people + $650 for set of 4.
*
This includes freight to their door.

Can you just get the 5" rears? Goin coilovers don't need a whole set

Yeah, they sell in pairs. Have to email shane at suspension stuff for a price on a single pair.

If we can get 15 people I'll be in for a 3" set.

well after being quoted 675$ for a pair of coils shipped i suggest a group buy, he said it would cut the cost in half!
