Last year i read here that it was good to set the timing at 10DEG BTDC instead of 7, to get the last bit of power from these beasts. Or so i thought. Can not find the thread now.

what is best? how far up till i start burning valves?

you can advance it until it pings, you will know if it is too far. I advanced mine a couple and then quickly put it back to seven. there was a noticeable power increase, but I am not willing to sacrifice engine longevity for a little extra power. You have to consider why you drive a 3FE powered truck.

I'm running at about 11* base...sometimes it reads 12*. I also have a shaved .030 head, pocket ported, and run 93 octane. She's liked it for a few years.
