I have lived with this issue for awhile, mainly because the factory lighting is poor, so I really did not care. But now that I have upgraded to George's LEDs I want these switches to function properly. I do not have the EWD, but have found the schematic listed below. My troubleshooting started with using the FSM, and I have followed the logical progression to isolate the wiring loom. I have verified that the door switch has continuity, but one burning question is this: If the door courtesy light does not function, assuming the bulbs is OK, will this effect the rear dome light circuit and keep it from functioning? If so, where do I start my investigation? Wire loom on the hinges side of this door in question? :hhmm:

My rear passenger side door light does not work and I know the bulb is good and all the overhead dome lights function.

Hope that answers one of your questions.

Coat,

Do you know the history? When did it stop working? Personally I think the issues is located in the wiring harness between the body and the door. Can anyone else confirm their experience? Thanks coat.

Most likely the door switch.
I changed out both rears this summer and everything now works.

From memory..
Undo the rubber boot, take out screw holding switch, there should be a red wire????

Now you either bring red wire to ground or add positve to switch wire and light should work.
If your lights work then you know the switch is fubar'd.

Should be an easy dealer item taking moments to change.

Have you tried removing the door switches, cleaning the plungers, and removing a bit of paint where the switch mounting bolt meets the body? My switches wouldn't work the lights until I did the above...no problems since. There are posts on the subject of grounding and interior lighting.

Here's one: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/196115-rear-door-switch-repair.html

This post says the switches are cheap, but cleaning the mounting bolt area could work for you.

Troubleshooting into the night last night on this one. I have reviewed and searched on MUD and found this issue to be common, either PSR or DSR. Curious enough that one mudder had an issue on the DSR and located the problem to the B pillar, after giggling the wires the circuit would be completed intermittely. Can anyone produce a copy of the 97 EWD that would help isolate this problem.

PRD, no dome or door courtesy light when opened.

I believe I have isolated to the highlighted area, it must be either a faulty ground or shaft wire? Any thoughts on how to proceed with trouble shooting this problem. I have tried the above suggestions without success. :hhmm:

Did you try as recomended in #6? Should only take a few minutes and would save you alot of headache if it worked.

Coat,

Thanks for your response. I did remove some paint from underneath the switch. I did not spary the switch, because I tested the swith with the multi and it is OK?????

I just tried the same thing on mine (#6) and even added some dielectric grease to the bolt/ground point - didn't help. I'll have to wait and see if you have any luck finding the problem.

Honestly, I think its a grounding issue, but there are only several grounding points on this circuit. When I have more time this week, I dive into it again.

i'm having issues with my right rear door lights now. only the right rear is affected and the switches all seem to work. looks like i'll be pulling everything apart to chase the ground:frown:

Are you using an led or normal bulb? Sometimes the cheap led's go flaky on me

i am using leds, but the lights tested fine with a test ground wire. i've also got two lights in each rear door and both are either out or both work

I am chasing a ground issue as well. I changed all the door switches to new ones and the rear cargo and passenger door lights flicker when the door is closed and I get a door open light on the dash. They will go fully on when the door is open, I just can't stop the flickering lights.

I will look under the center console for a ground.

That sounds moreike a door adjustment issue. Not sure where thesokr sensor is ( some are kn the latch), have you pushed on the door ti see if the lights function normally?

The lights go fully on normally.

The door sensors have all been replaced and the rear hatch sensor (which is part of the latch mechanism) is disconnected.

When the rear doors are fully closed the lights still flicker. It is so bad now that I can not set the factory alarm as it will go off at random intervals.
