Well, I finally got my exhaust done... Some of you know that about a year ago my stock muffler caught a rock and was ripped off my truck. As a result, I've been running a turndown after my cats as an exhaust system. It was loud.
Anyway, I did some snow wheeling last month and the weight of the cats with no hangers finally broke my Y pipe...
Just to clarify, when I say "broke" I mean it snapped in half where the 2 pipes come into one and I was dragging my sorry excuse for an exhaust down the street buy the O2 sensor wires. Yeah, It was time for a new system.
Anyway, I wanted a system that would be tucked up and out of the way. I wanted one cat and I wanted the exhaust to run up and over the frame. So I ordered the Magnaflow universal cat online and called up my buddy who manages HM Motorsports in Beaverton, OR. I told him my situation and after laughing at me for a good 5 - 10 min, he said that he happend to have a front resonator off of a 2007 VW GTI 2.0T sitting in his shop with next to 0 miles on it. Someone bought the car and had HM do a cat-back system on it. He said he was willing to donate that to the cause. (WooHoo! Freebie!)
He also hooked me up with Ed's Mufflers in Beaverton, OR. They do all of the exhaust work for HM Motorsports, so they said that they would build me the best system using my parts and following my design for $400. That sounded good to me, so the next day I dropped off my beloved 80...
Long story short, it took them a day and a half to build it, but the exhaust is like an Ivy plant around the frame. There is not one rattle or leak and the Cruisers sounds amazing! It has a nice, low V8-ish burble at idle and a almost straight pipe sound near redline. I couldn't be happier. It doesn't resonate at all in the cab. You can hear it, but still hold a conversation at any RPM.
Here is the new Y-pipe they made. You can see how much higher they tucked it in there.
A couple shots of the cat and where it goes over the frame.
Here is the GTI resonator.
The pipe over the axle.
And the tailpipe that even I couldn't smash!
The most amazing part of this system is how tight they got everything.
Anyways,
to HM Motorsports and Ed's Mufflers in Beaverton. I am extreamly pleased with how it turned out.
