OK...so since my wife talked me into keeping the 62 and fixing the rust...I thought I start a thread to document the build. This is my DD...so it'll be in and out of the garage with no mod taking more than a day or short weekend.

The plan is a simple DD build, more of an excursion truck with decent gas milage.

I'll go OME Heavys, run a skinny 33 on stock wheels or 16 steel wheels, fix all of the rust in the body and frame, build bumpers, cut 1/4s, build sliders, new paint and a few other things.

Starting with the color choice...so help a brother decide.
Its an 88 2 tone, silver blue, and dark metallic...and I really prefer ugly eye catching colors...so tell me what you think. Dark grey leather interior..and all of the white in the pics is more of a vintage creamy white.

I'm kind of partial to the dusty green of D. How about a 2-tone green over black or charcoal? Look forward to watching this as it progresses.

I don't like any of those colours...... :)

Maybe G... white upper tan lower.

All white looks good IMOP... but maybe red lower would look good. Try that on paint shop.

Well here is a real life "e"

sort of

That being said I also like B and D

My first Idea that spawned the color choices was choice A. It's the one my wife likes as well...It's an off white over the 70s mustard found on the FJ40s. I like the seam foam green as well. It'll be at least a month till any paint is sprayed..so I have time to decide and change my mind many times. :D

Not to put too much stuff up at once since I want feedback on everything...but how about bumper ideas. I'm pretty set on the rear since it'll be built into the new rear frame section (not removable) as a new cross-member....bt the front has me stumped.

I really like the thin-line look of my old rovertym bumper (like safarigard) but can;t figure out what tube i want up top.

Looks-wise, I like the simple, first bumper. Protection-wise, I would go for the last one with the orthogonal look and shorter runs of tubing.

I'm glad that you decided to save it!

I like the grey/white combo of "C", and the front bumper in top right corner, low profile yet protects the coolant systems. Paint the bumpers to match the grey like seen in other threads--super sweet.

Man...everyone is super consevative with thier color choices :D
No one is a big fan of the chicken terd yellow brown eh?

But yeah...I'll save it to the best of my abilities. I'm kinda glad I held onto my old Miller 135 welder for the body work. I shouldn;t burn through as much as my 212. I have always been kinda not very good at it...but I have a feeling by the time I finished..I'll be a pro :)

If you're going to paint it like a FJ55, then paint it like a FJ55. :D Whatever color combo you pick, you have to do the roof as well. I like A,D, and H.

Dijon Mustard is one of my favourite colours for FJ's...but havent ever seen an FJ6X series in it. I've considered this for a future mod though, and would LOVE to see another rig hit it before me!
1 vote for 'E' with disco stripes!

D,F,C In that order. You're pretty brave to tackle all that in weekend stints- especially as a DD. I'd be afraid of botching something and not being able to drive it come Monday...

I also like the low-profile front bumper, sorta like mine.

A or C. 2nd on top for the bumper. Clean looking.

Ok....so for some reason I was inspired to start the cruiser today....so off came the inches of bondo.
rusty.gif

out came the cut off wheels
cut-25s.gif

and then the rebuilding began
patch.gif

I gained about 7" from the cut 1/4s..and about 1.5" off the lip of the wheel tubs. I still have a ton more needed for the this side including cutting the rockers out and replacing with 3/16th box...and then the passender side
Hopefully I can get the bulk of the cutting and tin work done over the Christmas break so when the lift comes in I can start the paint.

The rear bumper will have additional 1/4 protection built in...most likely tube.

what does the inside of that frame look like? Oh, and I vote for color scheme B.:)

I kinda like D, you should have made this a poll. F would be my #2 for looks, but not function. White is a beast to keep clean, esp if there is any red mud, etc around you.

Any more pics of your cruiser?
