This is kind of a random question, but have any of you taken measures to lower the under hood temperatures? Vents, cowl hoods, scoops etc.? I was thinking that I could lower the temperatures in there quite a bit. A cooler intake has got to help a little with performance right?

Discuss while I read :beer::beer:

I was turned onto these by another mudder (digger).

I ordered a set for my V8J60

Peter, you got a pic of them installed ? Anybody?

Hey Spikestrip if you send me your email address I will send you the pics that digger sent me.

Vents

Here are the Race Ace vents I installed on my 60. They were easy to put on and came with all the hardware. When I drove xcountry it never once had a heating problem. A bonus is in the winter, the warm air from the engine compartment helps with the ice on the windows.

Quite a few 'jeepers' install hood vents to coll down the engine compartment. Makes sense when you're crawlin and it's a 100 outside

You should never have cooling problems with a 2F (or 3F for that matter)

yeah like Mace said...I don't see a problem?

If you want a cooler intake, why not just get a snorkel? The engine is going to operate at "operating temperature" no matter what...If you've got engine heating problems spend money on cooling system replacement. These things operate all over the planet in temps over 100 degrees...

My intake is still located up in the left fender well..draws air in pretty far away from the engine bay heat. To get better performance by adjusting intake temps..you need to have a different power plant on the receiving end of the intake...

back track

I don't have a heating problem, I just don't care for the heat soaked parts. I'm thinking about taking the carb fan out, since I don't have a carb, and letting the side vents take away some of that heat. Anyone else do that?

So I guess I'm confused? I thought we were talking about stock 2f stuff...so if not, here is my new comment concerning heat under the hood...
I DUNNO?

Sorry I kicked in with non-applicable opinion:whoops:

They liked the noise it makes?? :D

I would do the hood louvers if it meanss that much to you :)

They liked the noise it makes?? :D

My parents were over a couple months back and when I pulled up they came out to meet me. When I turned the key off the carb fan started and my dad asked what it was. I said, "Carb fan." and he said, "I thought this was EFI?" I said "Yup, you figure it out...."

He didn't figure it out.:D

True Story.

I should let this go but I'm curious now,

Bear with me please..your signature says you have a 89 fj62 with 2FE..that's the stock engine, it comes with efi

So if you have a 89 fj62 w/ EFI..Is that a after market fuel injection or the stock fuel injection that is on all 2FEs? If it is stock or not, and it is has a factory installed toyota cooling fan on it why would you want to change it out?

For the life of me I can not remember if my 62 had the fan? It is, after all, not just for the carburetor's cooling off but to help keep the manifolds from warping due to the heat created by all the emissions stuff on the usa models.

Not trying to argue..just courious about the tech here.

Got it...2F, 3F, what-the-F...I'm pretty slow witted and apparently don't comprehend what I read...that's what my teachers wrote on those report cards 45 years ago..thought it would improve with age....but nope..

HD

EDIT

Been thinking again..look out..

Okay so you still have a 2f with efi added, so you still need the fan to protect the exhaust and intake from warping after the engine is shut off...right? How bout it guys?
