If I could get some help it would be much appreciated. A while back I smelled fuel leaking out somewhere, I found the problem and thought i had fixed it. Behind the passengers seat of the 77 is a black plastic object the looks like it would mix some gases, it has 3 lines going into one chamber and has an output piece that has been capped. Well the male piece had snapped off where it connects to the chamber and i used some jb weld and some electrical tape to provide a cheap fix, Well that didnt hold and it broke again. Should i order a whole new part or try to do another cheap fix. And I feel as if the chamber should be pushing the fumes through the piece that has been capped, am i right to think this?

It is called a fuel separator.

Thanks but that may not be necessary. I will definetly keep you in mind though. Where does the line going out go to?

Here are some pictures. I think i need a new cap for the top. Will aluminum foil and electrical tape work?

Charcoal filter under the hood. It "cleans" the smell out of the fumes before releasing them to the atmosphere.

The charcoal can will actually store the fumes while the engine is not running. When the engine is running the fumes are vacuumed down the intake and burned.

Sigh. :hillbilly:

You really need all three lines connected to the bottom and charcoal can connected there at the top, then to the intake somewhere to properly vent the tank into the intake. You can reduce the fuel smell, but it will always smell until the tank is properly vented. On the top of your tank there are three holes. Two have hoses going to the separator. Where's the third one?

since the barb for the 3rd vapor line is broke off, you will need a new vapor separator. Looks like the PO tried to repair it with JB Weld from the grey appoxy that is left where the barb use to be.

You can use an appropriately sized stainless machine hex head screw and it will plug it perfectly. Had same issue on past FJ and solved problem. Check those fuel lines for dry rot too.
