This is a project I started, with my Daughter at 16 months and wheeling season coming, the 40 has been left out for the past two years. It might have gone 300 miles in the last two years. Not wanting to put my OEM fold downs back in and wanting a forward facing seat I started the search for a back seat.
I had been running a rear carpet kit with steel box that holds trail spares, tool box with tools and recovery gear. Much of this transfers back and forth between several of my rigs depending on where and what Im wheeling with.

Right away I found that my box was out, not enough leg room for a child or adult if the box and seat stayed. The box might end up on the deck trailer or maybe on my next project(FToy).

Some pics, I already run Mastercraft Rubicon seats up front on a special mount, I have a Auz 28 gallon cross tank, so all the OEM front seat mounts are out.

So bout the first of the year I started looking, the first place I went was IPOR, they have a really nice set up and are a great vendor from everything I have found.
Fold and Tumble Rear Seat [SCA-801950] - $265.00 : Iron Pig Off Road, Toyota 4WD experts
Shipping was the deal breaker for me.

Other option was a Subaru seat, Suzuki rear seat, Voyager rear seat or a PRP/Mastercraft rear seat, custom made$$$$$$.

During my trip to the Offroad Expo I picked up the standard Jeep catalogs and found the Rampage seat, and after looking around picked out the Rampage Fold and Tumble split seat, in black, the grey one was on terminal back order.
Showed up in three days, 4Wheelparts.com, 235$ to my door.

Drilled out the holes and mounted the seat with grade 5 hardware, more damn holes in the tub.

Seatbelts.com and 25$ and I have some basic seat belts, I had some OEM 55 belts from a 55 parts truck but they were pretty worn.

mounted the belts on the center bracket and side of the fenders.

basic seat belts, wont be doing any radical stuff with the kid in back and OEM soft top on so these will work fine.

All done, gonna put a clip in the back for the top of the car seat and off we go:cool:

Might add this little gem later, gotta do a rebuild of the front set up, slider and new seat carriage and aux electrical set up. Wiring is a mess right now.

Nice job Rob! I like the idea of a split rear seat!

Yeah small Coleman cooler fits on the Pass side real nice...........
Just need to find a way to secure soft bags with spare parts, fluids, 250pc tool box/bag, recovery strap/cable bag, yadda, yadda, yadda..........

Those are great looking. You ordered them at 4wheelparts.com? I have a retail shop for them in town, I'll have to stop by. How comfortable are they? Do they leave much leg room? How do they stay forward when folded? Very interested if they work well. Large dog.

Well I wouldnt want to have a 5'11" person like me back there for a full Golden Spike run, but it will work nice to run to town in Parker in the summer to get beer and ice, its there for kids, adults are tight back there for a long trail run.
4WheelParts had them on free shipping, either to residence or pick up at local store, my store is 30 minutes away so I got it shipped to my house. When folded forward something would have to hold them forward, like items where the seat goes.
I think they would work great for a dog, my Jack Russel rides in the wifes lap.

you could try one of the tool boxes made by knaack. its what i used behind my rear seat (see photo here https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/53389-rear-40-bench-seats.html ) they make a few different sizes and they are around $100.00 and hold most if not all my spare parts i take along. Sales & Installation Of Truck & Van Equipment, Shelving, Storage, Supplies, Packing tools, Automatic guided vehicles AGV, Industrial trucks, Lifting equipment and accessories

oh and how are your front seats for long trips ? i am looking at getting new seats in the front.

Those front seats are worth every penny, after spending a whole day on some Moab trails or the Hammers you dont notice any sore or numb spots, one of the best purchases I have made on the 40, and I have made some big ones. I highly recomend them, I ordered them 2" wider for my size, makes a difference.

I hope you put a reinforcement plate under that seatbelt bolt, or at least a large washer.....

BTW, I have had good experience with the Rubbermaid photo and media storage boxes from Ace - the lid locks really well - toted around on Golden Spike like 5 or 6 times :hillbilly:
