Who do I get in touch with to send my speedo housing off to to get milled out so that I can put two seals in it?

Is this really worth the trouble?

Agreed. if the PB drum is grooved, a $30 speedi sleeve solves the issue. If there is play in the bearing preload, neither solves the issue.

So, check the output shaft for play(even a tiny bit will allow the seal to leak) or a groove worn in the drum seal surface. correct either problem, and dont forget to put some permatex on the washer /nut that hold the drum on.

I have never needed to put the double seal on a cruiser... correcting underlying issues solved the problem.

What does the permatex do? Is that threadlock?

Thanks for the clarification Steve. Its not the same issue, but can be confused easily if you are assuming the drips are from the output seal, without identifying where they come from.

The above are all correct. But to answer a part of the original question. I believe it is Mudrak (sp?) who is known for this mod. However almost any competent machine shop can make the mod.

It's also real easy to remove the material yourself a little bit at a time. Even with a Speedi-sleeve, I was still getting some leakage. The double seal was a real easy mod to perform.

mudrak does the double seal setup and yes, it is totally worth it. i was doing seals on my 68 every year before going with the double seal setup. never did one after that. no leaks (at least from there)

IMHO, worth it. Easy mod, good insurance for a few minutes work and the cost of another seal.

I opened mine up myself with a dremel and some patience.

The interal rib the housing can be removed with a die grinder in less time than it takes to find a box to ship it in. I thought we discuss this on the phone. I'll be happy to do this for you don't have tools/comfortable with it.

Gotta get that output bearing shimmed correctly first.

I think you are right we did discuss grinding it by hand. I would like to do this before I get the tranny back and put it all together.

By the way, John has put together a pardi plate kit for me and I will be getting it in the next week or two......I am VERY excited to get it.

Yes he does, and Poser does too. ;) I have used these from both sources, and have been satisfied with both. I will no longer rebuild a pre-81 t-case in my shop without at least suggesting one to the customer.

Best

Mark A.

didnt' know steve did..good to know. i did end up replacing the seals once in the 68, about six months before i sold it, but not because it was leaking...one of the seals had gotten hard and was chunking out...still, not a drop on the floor. had it off for to rebuild the ebrake with new shoes.
